Cross of Iron (aka I love my all region player!)

I rented Cross of Iron from Netflix based on recommendations/buzz from dvdtalk. I liked the film enough to want to buy it but figured there had to be a better version than the pan and scan R1. Thankfully, I was right - I ordered the R2 version (which has a very striking cover, for those interested in such things) from bensonsworld for 8 pounds ($13.25 approx). WOW what a difference! Anamorphic transfer, richer colors, sharper image than the R1 version. I was SO glad I had an all-region player!

As for the movie, it took me a while to get into it - but ended up really enjoying it. If you're looking to own it, R2 is definitely the way to go.

I had the R2 but traded it. Definitely the way to go versus the P&S R1 version. As for the movie, it didn't live up to the reviews I had read. Although you have to love that barn scene.

Yes, all the Region 2 versions of Cross of Iron I've seen are good. It's the same company that's released Convoy too which has also ended up horrible in Region 1 and is only worth being in 99c bargain bins.

Is this the uncut International cut? Or the short American cut of the film?

According to info on Amazon (R1) and Bensons World (R2), the R1 comes in at 129 minutes and the R2 at approximately 127 minutes. dvdcompare does not indicate any cuts have been made. Hope this helps.

Hows the PQ on the R1? I've never heard of Hen's Tooth Video.

Horrible!!!! R2 is the only way to see this. The difference in time is strictly due to the PAL speedup. If anything, the R1 is cut. Not to mention P&S.

I agree - I saw the Hen's Tooth version via Netflix, and I thought it was bad, but didn't realize just how bad til I saw the R2. R2, definitely R2 on this one...
