"The Kid Stays in the Picture" on cable before DVD!?

I caught this movie on some cable channel several weeks ago. Can't remember the channel but I assume it was one of the HBOs. Today, I see the review for it on DVDFile under Sneek Peeks. I just assumed it had been on DVD for a while. Is this a first? A movie premiering on cable before DVD?

No, I'm pretty sure Citizen Kane was on TBS before it came out on DVD.

I was wondering the same when I watched it a few weeks back on HBO. Weird.

Same happened with The Believer (It went on cable before theaters because they thought it be too controversial)...

The Canadian DVD was out a couple of months ago, though.

I saw this about a month ago on HBO also. I got a little confused because I had seen it on Netflix's "coming soon" section, but figured they must have worked out a deal with HBO.

Similar to the IFC airing BadAsssss Cinema before the DVD release. On a side note, I watched it today and loved it. This was a great docu. If you have any likes or interests in Blaxpoitation films I highly recommend it.
