Smallville Viewer Needs Help!

I have a problem. I'm hooked on Smallville. But that's not the main problem. I've moved temporarily, and where I'm at doesn't get the WB network. Now, the fall season is a month or two away, but I just realized that I'm going to miss one of my favorite shows.

I'm not sure if there are any problems with my request, but here goes: If someone is a fellow Smallville fan and has access to a DVD burner, I am willing to send you (or pay for you buying) some DVD-R media and a bit of a thank you bonus for taping Smallville and sending me the episodes burned to a DVD. I really don't care about fancy menus, but I'd hate to miss the first three months even if they'll be reran later on in the year.

I was thinking that this actually could apply to other shows. If anyone's worried about illegal profit, we can follow the old Tombstones method of paying for the media and shipping or sending the media to be burned. That way, no profit is made and no one is illegally making money. That way, if you have a UPN/WB station that someone else doesn't have and are willing to take the time, we could set up a network of DVD exchanges.

Now, if only I could find the same for the old MST3k Comedy Central episodes

Yeah, if you have a broadband connection, you're probably better off downloading them. That stuff hits the net pretty quickly.

If you do need them to be sent to you, I'm sure someone here would be willing to help you out once the season starts.

The problem with downloading them is that I have no way to transfer them to tape or DVD. While I could watch them on the monitor, it's not the same. My broadband internet service doesn't have alt.binaries on the news server either...

I do want to thank Ryan. He's offered to tape them for me. I tell you, this board is a great community!

You can burn them to CDR as an SVCD or VCD. More than likely your DVD player can play VCD. If you have a cheapy DVD player (like those sold at Wal-Mart) they can usually play the better SVCDs. You can burn around a 794MB MPG (mpeg2) as a SVCD and it will fit on a 700MB CDR. If you have a finicky DVD player (like my Panasonic RP-91) you will have to first take the mpg and using the multiplexor tool in TMPGenc, write VCD headers to the file, then burn as VCD in Nero. The format is still SVCD, but it fools the DVD player into accepting the disc for playback because it thinks it is a VCD. The SVCD format is higher quality than VHS, but not as high as DVD.. it is somewhere in between (closer to DVD).

But if your broadband provider doesn't have binary groups, there's not much you can do other than pay for a premium news service like EasyNews.

Glad you could work out a tape trade. Just thought I would post in case anyone else was in a situation like yours and wanted other options to try.
