Ripper Owens is Iced Earth's new vocalist

Looks like my source's source was right. But I miss Barlow...

If you go to the Iced Earth site there are some samples of the new album with Ripper singing...they sound pretty good, but yeah, Barlow will be missed big time.

Crazy. Barlow leaves to work for Homeland Security (??) and Ripper Owens steps in. Anyone think in, oh, say 12 years Barlow decides to come back and Ripper needs a new job?

Can't wait to hear what they come up with.

Yeah, should have mentioned that. The vocals sound more like early IE, but not as irritating.

Owens sounds good singing the Iced Earth material. I'm looking forward to the album.

I like Ripper Owens but its really too bad about Barlowe. I'm a big Iced Earth fan so I'm looking forward to the next album.

I was never into Iced Earth, but I'm a huge Ripper/ Priest fan. A perfect opportunity to start listening to Iced Earth

I'm a huge metal fan (real 80's style, not the "nu" stuff) but I have never heard or gotten into Iced Earth, what do they sound like, what bands are they similiar sounding too?

A lot of their stuff sounds very maiden-esqe to me, with the galloping guitars and what not. A good CD to try out is Days of Purgatory, which is a greatest hits but with Barlow redoing most of the vocals.

I think it's a hobby for skunk... sounds like Barlowe can't stand to do something that isn't super meaningful for the welfare of others. I'm always pleased when guys have convictions like that but it's always weird when it comes in the middle of their life.

Except I'm not sure how "super meaningful" a desk job is going to be. It's weird, I always assumed Jon was the only hyper-patriotic one.

Well, I just meant the whole trying to make a difference thing. I have no idea what he's actually going to be doing.
