Today's CDs (7.28.03)
Tim Easton - Break Your Mother's Heart
Rooney - s/t
John Wesley Harding - Trade Arr Joe's
The Roots - Phrenology
v/a - South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut soundtrack
Guster - Keep It Together
D'Angelo - Brown Sugar
J-Live - All of the Above
J-Live - The Best Part
Jack Johnson - On and On
Squeeze - 45's and Under
O.A.R. - In Between Now and Then
Miles Davis Quintet - Workin'
Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out
Question of the Day: So I finally got Tim Easton's latest yesterday and there's a song on there with the line "that's the truth about us." His previous album was called The Truth About Us and no song on it contained that line. Can you think of any other albums that do not contain the title in any of the songs, but the title can be found in an artist's previous/subsequent albums?
I can think of two others, both by XTC. There was a line about "orange and lemon raincoats" (I think) on their Skylarking. Their next album was Oranges and Lemons. The term "apple venus" appeared on their Nonesuch on "And Then She Appeared." Their following album? Apple Venus.

What's so bad about it? It might also help to know if you ever liked them in the first place; we do disagree on a number of artists and albums.

I think the album comes out in late August. It's just lifeless and timid. I'm not overly familiar with their catalog, so I can't say if it follows their sound or if it's an anomoly (I have one other record by them, but I don't remember what it sounds like).
I've been digging on a mix of some of my favorite tracks of the year so far lately. The tracklisting:
1. Parts & Labor, "Happy New Year"
2. The Juan Maclean, "Give Me Every Little Thing"
3. Beyonce, "Crazy in Love"
4. Nas, "Get Down"
5. Killer Mike, "A.D.I.D.A.S."
6. Midwest Product, "Laundry"
7. Panjabi MC featuring Jay-Z, "Beware of the Boys (Remix)"
8. Junior Senior, "Move Your Feet"
9. A.R.E. Weapons, "Don't Be Scared"
10. Cold, "Stupid Girl"
11. Sean Paul, "Get Busy"
12. Dizzee Rascal, "I Luv U"
13. Punjabi Hit Squad, "Hai Hai"
14. British Sea Power, "Apologies to Insect Life"
15. Chevelle, "Send the Pain Below"
16. Calla, "Strangler"
17. 90 Day Men, "Too Late or Too Dead"
18. Raphael Saadiq, "Still Ray"
19. King Creosote, "Lavender Moon"
There's at least five more CDRs worth of songs that I love from this year, and I'll get around to making them soon. Being unemployed gives me plenty of time to do so (at least if I can get that Broken Social Scene piece finished)(I'm in the midst of the worst writing drought of my life right now -- I can't come up with anything good. It's frustrating the hell out of me).

I just thought of another answer to my own question: Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians made an album called Queen Elvis, but the track of the same name appeared on Hitchcock's solo acoustic album Eye a year later.
