Godzilla X Mechagodzilla R2 out today?

I just realized that the R2 Japanese DVD of Godzilla X Mechagodzilla is supposed to be released today. Of course, Toho still doesn't put English subs on their discs, but at least this disc is "cheaper" at 6000 yen compared to the last several new release G films priced at 10000 yen. Of course, this time, there seems to be less extras (not on a separate disc) and no soundtrack CD, but those weren't worth the extra 4000 yen to me anyway. I'm considering getting this but want to first see if there is any info about an upcoming R3 subbed disc like there was for the last few releases.

Godzilla X MechaGodzilla Universe HK

My Toho R2 disc was just sent on Friday but I emailed
www.u333.com saying that Mecha was not on the site yet and told him I normally use dvdshelf

This is what he replied
Hi,

"I know dvdshelf.com is a big eshop in hong kong.
I am not sure the list price from them. As far as I know, the price in
pre-order is cheap. You may buy it through them at that moment. However, the
normal price will be a bit higher than us.
Anyway, the release date is 1 August. They will release the information
before. You can check."

Ken.

Can't wait to check it out

Believe it or not, I also contacted Universal Laser (u333)and one of the guys there was nice enough to send me dvds direct from them. They usually don't take out of country orders, but they did it for me. Nice people there.

I ordered mine from www.cdjapan.co.jp for $62 shipped. If you want English subs you'll have to wait for August 1st. When Universe Laser releaes it it will probably fall within the $15-$20 range.

Yep, thats the site for Universe.
And thanks buckee1. I wasn't aware that Universe's disc would be available so soon. Anyone know if it will only have 2.0 sound like their GMK disc did?

Got the TOHO Region 2 today from Japan

The flick totally rocks with the bricks falling from the get go.

Incredible 5.1 audio track, 2,35:1 Tohoscope

Extra features are 2 theatrical teasers
4 Theatrical trailers and TV ads
Making of chapter contains mostly CGI work not so much is spent
on the suit designs as in other Toho G platters.

Making of runs about 35 minutes
There is also a 29 min feature on the construction of the film's score

Look for the teaser for GODZILLA - MOTHRA - MECHA-GODZILLA Tokyo S.O.S. the new film for 2003

Hope the Universe HK disc contains the same 5.1 track like other members

I actually culled the Universe release date info from Vagrantvideo's earlier post. I'll keep looking around the net and should I find anything, Ill post it here.

Sorry for any confusion.

Actually, August seems a little early for a HK release, based on past experience. Didn't the R3 GMK come out around October or so, last year?

Last year GMK came out in HK only like 2-3 weeks after the Toho disc.
Megaguirus was like one month after.

I did find it strange when the Universe rep said Aug 1 2003 was the date for the R3. That is less than 1 week after the Official Japanese video release.

Usually eBay gets flooded as well once they street and as of today there is nothing posted there.

DVDshelf still does not have it up and they emailed me back asking me for more information about the film.

OK nevermind, I have a bad memory. (or did the R2 come out later than July last year and thats what confused me?)

You're right though, seeing them show up on ebay will probably be the first sign of an R3 release (well, that or the first bootlegs, but as long as the auction description clearly says R3, they would probably be legit)

has anyone used dvdshelf before? I got my credit card info stolen online recently and was curious about anyone's prior experiences.

I got my R2 Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla on Friday and the disc is outstanding!

I purchased the dvdshelf R3 version for $22 shipped. ($5 for the disc and $17 for the shipping.

Once I get it, I'll post the differences between the R2 & R3 if any.

If you want to order it from the US, HKFlix and Poker Industries both have the R3 disc available now for about 15.00 plus shipping. Too bad its not anamorphic, but at least it has 5.1 sound, which is more than can be said for the R3 GMK last year.

Picked my R3 Universe release of GvMG today in NYC Chinatown - a sweet $10.50!

It's a DVD-5, but it's a short 89 minutes so hopefully the picture quality will be as good as GMK.

I won a copy of the R3 release on ebay, and got notice that it was shipped Saturday. The description says it has english subtitles.
