I'm currently reading the trilogy and was wondering about your thoughts about the books. I think that they have a good story line to them and interesting twists and turns. The only thing that I don't like about the book is the different dialects used. The author changes often and slows the reading of the story.

What are your thoughts?

I've had these books for over a decade and never read them. Are you saying they're worth the time?

What about the "Duology" ("The Silver Call"?) he also wrote (after?) The Iron Tower? Have you read those two, too?

I am not saying that they are bad books, in fact I think the story is very good. I just don't the way he changes dialects so often. It slows up the reading. The story is a lot like Lord of the Rings.

I read somewhere that McKiernan wrote the triology as a homage to the Lord of the Rings. Seems more like an easy way to make a quick buck.

The Duology (I forget the name of it, also) was somewhat fun. It was like a return to the Mines of Moria, but this term the Dwarves were there to kick ass.

I think that's why I've neglected those books for so long: I keep hearing about the Lord of The Rings homage/ripoff/parallel. Rings in my head as unoriginal.

Now that you've read them, and you say the story is "a lot" like LOTR, did you find that a deterrent or annoyance?
