Best film decade?... BESIDES 1970's

The 1970's always dominates this poll, so we'll forget that one.

The 1930's has:

City Lights
L'Atalante
Grand Illusion
Modern Times
Stagecoach
Alexander Nevsky
Rules Of the Game
Bringing Up Baby
The Wizard of Oz
It Happened One Night
M
Scarface

And probably several other great films I've forgotten.

The 80's had lots of classic Teen movies, as well as all of the big summer blockbusters.

30s. There's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Gone With the Wind, aside from some movie mentioned earlier.

1940's & 70's are the best, with the 30's nipping on their heels.

The 1980's were, by far, the worst years for Hollywood films, it's not even a contest.

Surely, you jest. (And I'll stop calling you Shirley)

Great '80s movies:

Excalibur (my favorite film of all time)
Airplane!
Caddyshack
Aliens
The Changeling
The Empire Strikes Back
Return Of The Jedi
E.T.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The Elephant Man
Blue Velvet
Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Weird Science
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Brazil
The Fly
Predator
The Idolmaker
Akira
Raging Bull
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Superman II
After Hours
Say Anything
An American Werewolf In London
Spaceballs
A Christmas Story
Die Hard
The House Of Games
Ghostbusters
War Games
The Road Warrior
Near Dark
Mississippi Burning
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Wall Street
The Sure Thing
Platoon
Amadeus
Planes, Trains And Automobiles
Raising Arizona
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

...and I'm just getting started. I'm willing to bet that most us here watch more '80s movies than from any other decade.

No, I listen to more '80's music than from any other decade. I probably watch fewer movies from the 80's than any decade, from the '20's on.

Great '80s movies:
Back to the Future
Terminator 1 and 2
Conan
Roger Rabbit
Escape from New York
Tron
This is Spinal Tap
48 hours
Tremors
The Blues Brothers
Nightmare on Elm Street (The very first was a true horror classic before it was run into the ground)

The 80's ruled.

I guess the 50's, but that's more of a gut feeling rather than any in-depth analysis.

Anyone can make a list of great movies from any decade, it's the depth & breadth of the films that count and that's where the 1980's is really lacking. A fluff decade with few intelligent & thought provoking films.

Don't let nostalgia rule your critical eye.

I hate to break it to you, but T2 came out in the 90's.

Nostalgia rules every critical eye. Why do you think that like 80% of the "Greatest Movies of All-Time" lists are from the '30s through '60s?

Well, my top three favorite director's are David Lynch, Woody Allen and Stanley Kubrick....all of which (since we've excluded the '70s) did some of their finest work in the '80s (The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Zelig, Hannah And Her Sisters, Radio Days, Crimes And Misdemeanors).
