Question about playing dvds from uk in us

I have a region free player and would like to play dvds from the UK here in the US. Would I have any problems playing them because of the PAL format. I know it willl play on my DVD player, but will it look ok on my tv?

I've got a U.S. Philips DVD Player that I made region free (via remote control hack) and it plays PAL discs fine. I frequently order R2 DVD's from Blackstar.

In order to play PAL discs, you need either a television that is PAL-compatible (doubtful if you live in the US) or your DVD player must covert PAL to NTSC. I don't believe any of the 'hacked' Toshibas will do that. It is just a normal NTSC player that has had the region coding disabled.

So no, you probably won't be able to watch PAL discs.

actually this is not true. the toshiba 3900 converts Pal to NTSC although you do get a small speed up due to the frames per second difference in the two formats.

I own this toshiba and have watched 3 different pal dvd's.

just hook the dvd player to your TV the same way you would any other dvd player.

Could you please tell me the model Philips you have? I'm looking at some alternate players that are region free.

Sure, it's a DVD 623. I'll send you an e-mail with the info you'll need.
