what the HELL was that (Final Destination 2 ad)
so yeah, I was just surfing the video games forum, and all of a sudden a HUGE fullpage ad for Final Destination 2 showed up (in flash format no less) and it had the option to skip the ad, it took me 2 minutes to do it, it did not allow me too, it was so annoying to be surfing a forum and all of a sudden BAM.
sorry if I vented too harshly

Gah!
Same thing here - it replaced the screen as I was posting. I had to close my browser and reload DVDTalk... plus I was made to appear foolish by having to EDIT my post... the shame
Seriously, that was the worst online ad I have ever seen... urgh

Welcome to the wounderful world of the 'Intermercial'. The bad news is that it takes over the entire page between pages. The good news is you shouldn't see it any more frequently than 1x per hour.
This ad type was required for this campaign and so we've got to run it.
It's not something that will become a regular ongoing ad type for the site.

Yea, this new ad is misleading with the fake "skip" button on it.
But here's a quick solution:
Just close the window, open a new window, and jump back on dvdtalk.
Not the easiest thing to do, but at least you don't have to watch the full ad that way.

Pass this message on to your advertiser: I was going to purchase this film, but now I will not. Simple as that.

Seriously, this is the most horrifically awful kind of advertisement that there is... but if this is the way that Kleinman.com Inc. can raise the money to continue to give us this forum, I will suffer through it.
On the plus side, Geoff... if this did become a regular feature of the forum... you would definitely drive up your sales for the new Premier Memberships.

You know, I'm cool with the banners, the pop-unders, links to stores to buy stuff, but this one!? This one would be enough for me to not go back to a site.
You do not have to close your browser to get rid of the ad quickly. I just hit my back button and it was gone.
Geoff, I know you need money to keep this site up and running, but this ad campaign.... What happened to the days of you stating no pop ups would ever be accepted at your site?
Premier Membership where are you??

Not true... I've seen it 3 times in the last 30 minutes. If you adopted this sort of ad as a regular thing, I'd have to find another forum to hang out at and support. (yeah sure, a few people would be happy to see less of me, but I've been supporting and contributing to this site for several years now and I think for every person who dislikes what I have to say, there's a person or two who have enjoyed or benefited from it - besides, I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way about these ads). I'd rather have pop-up ads than these.

It doesn't bother me that much but if it continues or if this becomes a regular thing...yuck!
Geoff...I will buy a T-shirt, hat, whatever it takes.

For those of you who are seeing it more than 1x per hour.
Please post:
Your browser type and Version
your OS and Version
Also are you blocking cookies or not? If you're using IE and blocking cookies, you can go into:
Internet Options > Privacy
and at the bottom of the menu is an option to enter websites to allow cookies on.
The ads for this are coming from ads.gorillanation.com
Again, let me reiterate that intermercials are not something we see doing on the site on a regular basis (like IGN or some of the other sites that now do this as part of their site). This is a special studio campaign which required this kind of advertising.
I will of course give feedback on our member's experience with the ads!

I am seeing it about once every 10 minutes.
I'm using Explorer 6.0.2800 on Windows 2000 professional with all the updates installed. I am not blocking cookies.
This ad sucks. I quit using yahoo groups because of ads like these. The only way I'll watch Final Destination 2 now is if I see it for free somehow.

I think the ad pop up is dependent on you actually going past it, by watching it or skipping it. I had been clicking back and then moving forward again. Now that I've actually gone through it (I had to, as it popped up after I clicked "submit reply") I haven't seen it again.
