9/30 - The Man Who Laughs
Kino is going to release the rarely-seen, but beloved, silent horror film The Man Who Laughs on September 30.
This is an important movie, for sure...its director, Paul Leni (The Cat and he Canary, Waxworks) was a big influence on James Whale (Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Old Dark House, The Invisible Man), and the main character of the film was the basis for The Joker of Batman fame.
I hope Kino does this film good...Kino discs are usually barebone to relatively generous as features go, and their transfers on silent films tend to be good.

Great news!
I've always wanted to see this one after seeing stills of it in my old horror books.
Yes, September is gonna be an expensive month indeed!

DVD Talk Special Edition
FANTASTIC!!!!
This is among my top 5 requested titles. I've been dying to get this on DVD. I cannot wait! Thanks so much for the info. I really thought it was going to be several more years before it made it to disc if ever.

Kino has announced the special features for the disc. Surprisingly meaty.
-An original 20-minute documentary on the making of the film.
-Rare footage of Conrad Veidt at home with his family, as well as fellow European emigrés Greta Garbo, Emil Jannings, and Camilla Horn.
-Extensive gallery of rare photographs and art.
-Booklet essay by John Soister, author of CONRAD VEIDT ON SCREEN.
-Excerpt of the Italian release version, with unique hand-painted title cards.
-Excerpt from Victor Hugo's original novel.
I hope this and the Stroheim discs are mere warm-ups for L'Age Dor. Not too long before we get an announcement on that.
