Box Set Dilemma: Nikita or Profiler

I'd like to get some opinions from the forum on a choice.

I am thinking of buying either La Femme Nikita - Season One or Profiler - Season One. Right now I am only inclined to pick up one or the other (I know Profiler is not out yet).

I have never caught an episode of either, but I like both premises and saw the original movie for Nikita.

So, give me some opinions and advice: which one do you think is better and why? (I know Profiler will be missing an ep).

To give you some ideas about my viewing tastes, my other fave TV shows are: CSI, Buffy, and Alias (in that order).

Other box sets I have: Angel, Six Feet Under, The Shield, X-Files (seas 1), CSI - 1.

Other box sets on the list to be purchased: Alias, Angel -2, CSI -2, Buffy sets, Dark Angel, 24.

Thanks for your opinions.

I'm gonna go with Nikita--I just have a thing for Peta Wilson, plus the show wasn't too bad if I remember correctly.

Both were really good shows Nikita is the more expensive of the two but Profiler will be missing Episode 4 due to a music rights problem.

Since your tv viewing tastes seem to be pretty mainstream.
You should probably go with Profiler. Its typical
Friday or Saturday nite fodder. Though it gets old
listening to Ally Walker deliver her lines.
Like she almost stutters through them.
But there is a good supporting cast.

LFN is more of an aquired taste. Many viewers just
dislike the series. I like Peta Wilson.
Along with a very interesting group of actors.
Storylines can be brutal. And there are not many
happy endings. Everything revolves around Section
and how Nikita works & survives within it.
Its one of my Favorites.
My tv tastes run like Babylon 5 to Lexx.

Both are tough blind buy with so many other tv
box sets out there.

If you like Alias, you'll like Nikita.

I'd pick Nikita as Profiler is just your typical friday night show that no one watches. At least Nikita tried to be original.

Unequivocally I'd say Nikita. The Profiler was your typical run-of-the-mill series while Nikita adventured into much deeper psychological characterizations of its main protagonists. This, plus great chemistry between the main actors, an ever evolving storyline and an absolutely fabulous soundtrack. On a related note, who's up for Peta Wilson guest starring on Alias this upcoming season?

I did not desire to offend you or tell you how to spend
your $$$.

But I would really like to see you jump out there
and get something original.
Maybe Babylon 5 Season 1. The story itself is worth
the blind buy. Go over to the TV forum and do a
search on it. Being a Buffy owner I know you can handle it.

But Nikita is a jump in itself. Its just not good all the time.
It tries, but fails several times throughout each season.
As posted above it is sort of like Alias I guess,
but better in a darker way.
Still a better blind buy then profiler IMO.

Since it sounds like you're basically asking which season/show is better, moving to TV Talk.

Nikita was one of my favorite tv shows ever. For the most part it was a very intense show. Some people compare it to Alias - I call Alias a poor imitation of Nikita. Nikita was very well acted, perfectly cast, and was quite ruthless. I dunno, I just love the show.

Profiler on the other hand, I thought was completely mediocre.

So obviously my vote goes to Nikita! Read some of the reviews of it on amazon, they pretty much match my thoughts on the series.

btlives-

no offense taken, I just wanted clarification on your post.

Everyone,

Thanks for the feedback. Since Nikita is available now and it seems like the majority likes it better in direct comparison, I think I am going to go that way.

I got this set as a blind buy and i have a few questions for people who know the series--

I've just watched the first episode and was kind of surprised at the lack of violence (this is nikita after all... isnt it?) I think only 1 person died.

I saw the movie and I guess i wanted to know is she a killer in this series? A true assassin?

Haven't seen the Nikita series, but every episode I ever saw of Profiler was exactly the same: Main character is called in to investigate crime; she develops a profile and looks for clues, but it's all a lot of work for nothing as she will have a psychic vision 5 minutes before the end of the show that will tell her who the killer is.

Why bother with all the footwork? She could have just sat on the couch watching TV all day until the psychic premonition came to her.

I don't remember the first season all that well, but there is a fairly high body count after a while. If I remember correctly, she struggles with her new duties at first, but after a while comes to accept them, although she always runs issues where she needs to do something ruthless but her emotions get in the way. Nikita herself is a basically good person with a conscience, where as Operations and Madelaine are the ones who can act without emotion. Lot's of agents get 'cancelled', bad guys are captured/tortured/killed, people are sacrified for the 'good of many', etc, etc. There isn't a whole lot of real graphic violence, you got your standard gun battles/explosions where people die in normal tv gunfight deaths. It's the cold-blooded way agents are cancelled and prisoners are tortured for information that give the show its edge.
