I chose Jaws, because it was the first Spielberg movie I saw. It
really left an impression on me. Raiders was a close second. Of
course he's had other good movies since then.

when a director's body of work includes that many good films, there is no need to choose.

His films are so good, that they often fall into both categories. In 20 years, A.I. might be seen as his best, but right now, I can't decide between 3! That's how great Spielberg is: Jaws, Raiders, and Jurassic Park.
Along with Close Encounters, SPR, and Last Crusade in my top 30.

1. Empire of the Sun
It's Spielberg's best movie and his most underrated one at that.
2. A.I.: Artificial Intelligence
3. Jaws
4. Minority Report
5. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
6. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
7. Schindler's List
8. Jurassic Park
9. Catch Me If You Can
10. Poltergeist
While I'm not a lover of the Indiana Jones Trilogy, they're still great films. I'll also throw out some love towards Duel and his segment in Twilight Zone: The Movie.
Saving Private Ryan (with the exception of the first 15 minutes), Amistad, The Lost World, The Color Purple, and 1941 can have their negatives burned for all I care.

JAWS
Tho it should be his and Verna Fields best movie. Always wondered how the film would have been if Bruce worked fromt he beginning.

You can tell it is underrated when the poll doesn't individually include it.
It has to be with "other".My top 3:
Empire of the Sun
Saving Private Ryan
Raiders of the Lost Ark

Jaws.
He hasn't come close since and hasn't made a really good film since Schindler's List... A.I. was interesting but too flawed to work. SPR, Minority Report - and the rest of his recent material - were average films at best...
