Aki Kaurismaki's The Man Without A Past

I looked on a Danish board searching for another title and to my surprise Aki Kaurismaki's THE MAN WITHOUT A PAST is going to include English subs. *(Scandinavian release).

Here's the link to the Scandinavian forum:
http://www.dahf.dk/cgi-bin/ultimateb...c&f=9&t=000219

and here;s the IMDB info on it:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0311519

Here's a rough translation on the info provided for the French release which did not include English subs. (using an online translator)

***********
A Amazon.fr Essence By decreeing its Great special Price and its Price of female interpretation 2002 with this Man without past, the jury Cannes chaired by David Lynch has made it possible to make the light on this incredible Finnish scenario writer in activity for more than fifteen years: Aki Kaurimäski, kind of mixed Gainsbourg-Bukowski, with shifted humour, devastating and deeply human. Through the adventures of an amnesic who rediscovers the simple pleasures of the life near a community of disinherited in the suburbs of Helsinki, this sarcastic scenario writer brushes a tasty gallery of Finnish portraits marginal: a malicious forgery guard and his false watchdog baptized Hannibal, a lawyer with the frightening problems of elocution, a finally honest hold-up man, etc. This fable minimalist, under the patronage of Tati, Chaplin, Capra and Jarmusch, includes an eternal screen - the search of the origins - in which the laconic and depressive humour of Aki Kaurismäki makes wonder. With the difference in its precedents opus - To far from go away the clouds, Juha, Hamlet Goes Business - radiate two bright elements here: the light, which evokes sun in a cold water, takes as a starting point the the tables by Edward Hopper, and the band rich and tonic, which briskly passes from the blues of the origins to pure the rock' roll, while passing by Finnish traditional songs.

Following the link bellow you will see that the film received the
Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and the Prix d'interprétation féminine du Festival de Cannes
Kati OUTINEN for THE MAN WITHOUT A PAST (MIES VAILLA MENNEISYYTTÄ).

I am stunned!! See for yourself:
(hope he does not mind having his email posted but I thought people should see what a professional I had the pleasure to deal with).

Hi

It's not everyday I get a question from the US about our little home
cinema forum

The Man Without A Past (Danish region 2 version) does indeed include
english subtitles. We try very hard to write the right information in our
reviews. The link to Dvdoo.com you mention doesn't say anything about it,
and that's because the cover of the DVD only mentions danish, swedish,
norwegian and finish subtitles. And the copy I reviewed does not have
finish subtitles so it looks like a cover mistake.

I will however say that it has english subtitles with some reservations
because the copy I reviewed was a screener DVD that I received without a
cover and it says "promotion - not for sale" on the DVD. The companies
sometimes send them like that to us but they should be 100% like the one
in the stores. There is a possibility though (like 1 out of a 1000) that
it was an early copy I received and that the final release has some
changes. But it is very unlikely and personally I think that it simply is
a cover mistake as I mentioned.

For the record I got a reply in less than 5 hours after I emailed the person.

I've been on the lookout for a DVD of this for a while, but IIRC, a R2 UK disc was supposed to be coming out fairly soon, so I might just wait for that.

edit: Amazon.uk has it listed for July 28th...
