Question About : Warcraft 3
When i put my warcraft 3 CD in the drive and double click the icon, it immediatly comes up with a CD-ROM drive error without checking the CD-ROM drive at all. The error message reads "Please verify that your Warcraft III disc is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on 'Retry.'" Is there a solution for this problem?

Blizzard uses a copy protection scheme that is screwy with some CD drives. I had this same problem with Diablo 2 when it came out and actually had to go and buy a new drive to fix the problem.

Question About : Warcraft 3
A few things to say :
1)My computer itself CAN find the CD-ROM drive, its just that my game refuses to even try. Therefore, putting it in another CD drive would not and does not work
2)Reinstalling works if i install the 1.06 patch with it, but it only works once, so everytime I play I must reinstall the game AND the patch. Also, this is a problem with the Frozen Throne also, and there is no 1.06 patch for the Frozen Throne.
3)The CD is not scratched.
4)This is not a copy of either of the original discs (Reign of Chaos or The Frozen Throne). They are legal.
KNOWN SOLUTIONS THAT I HAVE FOUND BEFORE:
-Format (100% Erase) the hard drive and reinstall without a connection to the internet. This leads me to believe that 1) Blizzard knows that i have a copy installed on both a desktop for home use and a laptop for mobile use, and 2, that it has put cookies on my computer to say that i cannot play here. I have not yet tried using my home computer on the game after installing it on this laptop (becuase i am in another state right now) but i believe that it will no longer work on the desktop either [once i connect to the internet, which is automatic with cable].
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope that will help with solutions.

I have not emailed bnet support, but i have read through virtually 100% of blizzards tech support pages containing anything to do with warcraft 3 not working. All of those things have either not worked and/or not applied for my computers.
But thank you, I will consider writing a direct note to blizzard support.

old thread bump...
Does anyone still play Warcraft 2 or 3 at all? Just got a hunkering to play and wonderful if it's easy/hard to get them working on newer computers of today? I have a MacBook Pro, and the wife has a Dell laptop. Thanks OP!

Re: Question About : Warcraft 3
I played WC3 on my Macbook Pro but on the Windows 8.1 partition. No problems at all with it. To play on OsX is more of a hassle unless you're still at 10.6.8 or lower

Re: Question About : Warcraft 3
This reminds me that I blind bought the Collectors Edition of Warcraft 3 after watching some videos. Still unopened after what, 12 years?
