Which Criterion will go OOP next?
Not looking to make a killing on Ebay, just trying to decide my next purchase before something on my want list gets hard-to-find or ridiculously overpriced. I've read somewhere (forget exactly where) that their license on Straw Dogs isn't very long. Also, I've read that the reason for the recent Hitchcock box set was because they're about to lose that license. Can anyone confirm these 2 rumors? Anybody have any more scoops?

Straw Dogs will definitely be going OOP by next year, they contract with the distributor says that they only have a certain amount of time to produce it.
As for Hitchcock, I wouldn't worry about it. They may go OOP, but that does not mean that current stock will magically disappear off the shelves. They produced enough that it will take a while to leave the shelves.

9 times out of 10 when a new person jumps in and asking what is going OOP then it is usually someone trying to horde stuff for ebay.

Somehow, I doubt it. I'm just genuinely curious.

It's true that Criterion's rights to STRAW DOGS, SPELLBOUND, NOTORIOUS and REBECCA all expire 12/31/2003. That means all those titles, as well as the Hitchcock boxed set, will go oop in 2004. Beyond that, it's anybody's guess.

I love it, too. The panic sets in quick 'round these parts. Just search for the How to Get Ahead in Advertising or Tati threads. The collector in me gets all revved up, too, so I'm not pointing fingers.
A little bird told me that the Handmade Films may be going soon...
