I have found the game that will make me buy a PS2!

I've wanted one for months but it's a pricey want. As soon as Gran Turismo 4 comes out, though, that and the PS2 are mine. That is an AWESOME looking game. I can't wait.

I'm glad you have found a game which will finally pursued you to purchase a PS2. I too am looking forward to this game as GT3 is on of the best games ever. By the time this game comes out, you'll also have a huge list of Greatest Hits titles to choose from.

I would wait and see how it plays before buying an entire system based on the looks of one game. Chances are that it's going to be a solid title, though.

I played it and it doesn't look as good as it does in the picture there. It's got some new features and some minor graphical enhancements, but it's still not exactly a huge upgrade over GT3. Since GT3 is an excellent game, that's not too much of a problem.

No way is that an in-game screen.

That photo was in the latest PSM magazine with this caption:

"While this isn't an actual screenshot, per se, it does use the in-game models for the car and environment. Everything is just rendered at a much higher resolution in order to show off the high level of detail."

You can tell from the grass fense that its not CG, so what else could it be. I think they are making this Prog Scan like VF4, which would explain why the version Trigger played didn't look like this.

I'm just waiting on the system price to come down, or for them to offer some sort of bundle. I only paid $135 for my GC (with 2 games) so I've gotten a little spoiled when it comes to hardware deals.

Yeah - that's BS - that car has a way higher polygon count too than the PS2 could handle.

I thought the Grand Canyon shot was a real in-game shot, though, and THAT looks pretty amazing.

I can't wait until December so I think today is the day... for a PS2, the online adapter, Kingdom Hearts, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and the Action Replay

I've been reading video game magazines (Game Informer, GamePro, and Electronic Gaming Monthly - have subscriptions to all three) and I was amazed that most of the top games rated by players are PS2 games (and that the XBOX had sold more than GCs) - I have an XBOX that I never use and a GC now (I'm still glad I got the GameCube because I have Mario, Metroid, and Zelda).

I was surprised to read that EA is going PS2 only, so I'm thinking of picking up the $199.99 pack with the online adapter (-10% BB Preferred Cust coupon).

Double check that, I always remember consoles not being included in that coupon.

But hey, if I'm wrong, lemme know

EA is going to PS2 only? Where did you hear that? All I know is that they are only supporting PS2 for ONLINE.

yeah those shots are definately at least 1024 x 768 the graphics for the ps2 version will look just like gt3, maybe a little better, and the grand canyon shot the car is real, the background is high res, so it will not look that good.

I did it. I bought it

For $380.70 at EBGames I got:
  • Brand new PS2 with network adapter
  • 2-year warranty on everything that came in the box, including the system, controller, network adapter, and cables. Even if, say, the joysticks wear out from use, they replace them. If the laser goes bad (well, when the laser goes bad) they replace it.
  • Used copies of Kingdom Hearts, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Final Fantasy X. FF had very minor scratches and the other two were in new condition
  • 8-meg memory card
  • A one-year membership ($10) and a one-year video game magazine subscription (can't remember the name but it's not EGM, Game Informer, or GamePro)
  • An Action Replay (I get a $30-mail-in rebate and I'm about to buy an Action Replay, so I got all the parts above plus an Action Replay for the $380)

About to hook it up and play FF

heh nice, congrats on the purchase, now the hard part is that you have 2 RPG's and GTA which all take a bunch of hours to beat too. well, at least you know what you'll be doing for the next month

Wow I've been playing for an hour and hardly noticed it. I'm diving to the salvage area right off the ship. Almost jumped out of my chair the first time an enemy attacked, what with the breaking glass sound and all.

The graphics are awesome. I could do with a little less narrative. I really appreciated that throughout the narrative there were little things to do. I appreciated even more that everytime I was about to die, something or someone rescued me FF is nothing like I expected. A lot of times the movie part is over and I stand there like a dunce not realizing it's time for me to move.

I'm going to fix the thingamaggidit and then it's on to Jax and Daxter (I had it from about a year ago from a BB sale - I knew I would get a PS2 sooner or later.)

Some other PS2 titles to consider:

SOCOM
Twisted Metal Black
SSX Tricky
Lord of the Rings
GT3 (why wait for GT4)
