For the same reason someone would want to have The Wizard released on DVD: personal tastes.

Is has come to the point that the only difference between daytime soaps and a primetime show like ER or the Practice is production values. The soaps have to crank out 5 to 10 episodes in the time that primetime does 1.

Don't forget the high production and gritty realism that is "The Dukes of Hazzard" (!!!) - Nothing but a soap opera for hillbillies...

But seriously, folks, except for production values and other stuff, what's the difference between soaps and any series that is heavily arc-driven? Buffy was a soap. West Wing. Many more.

I view reality shows as being lower on the scale than soaps. There are many who will disagree.

But production value is everything. Good writing and acting can be the difference between good shows like West Wing and crap like Passions.

Not me. I agree, wholeheartedy.

You can't get away from that junk even if you pay no attention at all to it. If I could scrub the name and face of Evan Marriott out of my brain, I would do it without a second's hesitation.

Yeah, but the reality shows aren't nearly as bad as the participant's sad, pathetic attempts at maintaining their "celebrity" once the show is over..

That reminds me of a funny comment someone said on another board thread with regard to the season ending of Smallville.

The person prior was stating what's gonna happen to Clark, Lana, the Kents, etc.

And someone said...."And they say men don't watch soap operas.."

No flaming here. I don't do that. I enjoy my soaps. I am a stay at home mom and my son cuddles into me every day and takes a nap while the soaps are on. It started when he was just a baby and would breastfeed and, of course, I can not go anywhere while he is feeding. There is hardly anything on daytime tv and so I watch soaps. Insult my programming if you wish, but the reason there are so many diverse shows is that there are so many different tastes. I would much rather watch the soap than Divorce Court or Judge Joe Brown. However, I will not put down those who enjoy those type of shows or the shows thenselves. That is their choice. Tolerance makes for an amazing world.
