Lawrence of Arabia Problems

I bought the 2 disc edition of Lawrence of Arabia about 2 months ago from Overstock.com. I just had the chance to view the entire thing tonight (didn't want to break it up into smaller pieces over a few evenings) and discovered a problem with my Disc #1:

It freezes in Chapter 13 at about 53:22. I cannot jump ahead to Chapter 14 as the problem covers about 30-40 seconds. I have to skip to chapter 15 and rewind to about 54:10 for it to work. I have tried this on a Toshiba 3107 as well as my DVD-ROM (which hung up even worse).

I obviously can't send it back to Overstock.com - I've had it too long. I looked at the Columbia/Sony web site for a email address I could send a note to asking for a replacement but no luck there, either.

Any suggestions?

I was watching this earlier and had no problem, so it must be just your copy. I'm sorry that I'm no help.

Thanks for the responses but I already know I have an isolated case. What I was wondering is if I'm stuck with a bad disk or does anyone know how to get in contact with Columbia/Sony to report a bad disk.

Have you tried cleaning the disc? The problem you describe sounds like a small scratch. I have had similar problems with other discs and fixed them via the SkipDoctor.

I scanned the disk but didn't see any scratches. I will try a Skip Doctor, anyways, I've been meaning to pick one up. Are they available everywhere (i.e. Wal-mart)?

I had a similar, if not the exact same, problem. Right at one of the chapter stops (The Rescue of Ghasim, I believe; don't remember the number or time stamp) the disc froze. Did the usual stop disc, check for scratches, clean disc, restart. I went to the scene selection and was able to start just fine at the same point.

You can get Skip Doctor lots of places; I got one at Best Buy. They have a web site, which you can find through a quick search. I don't live near a Wal-Mart, so I have no idea if they carry it. FWIW, the discs I cleaned with SD worked very well afterward.

Good luck.
