what happens at the end of Event Horizon? (obviously, spoilers)

im having an argument with a buddy of mine about how the film actually ends.

i say that miller detonates the explosives lining the mid-section of the ship, sending stark and the black dude away to safety as they are in the front part of the event horizon. he and weir go into the EVIL DIMENSION OF EVIL, as they are inside the rear section of the ship which follows on course into the 'vortex'.

my buddy says, no, man. see, he says miller blows up the entire ship except for the front cabin part, sending stark and the black dude to safety, but killing himself and weir. he says the rear of the ship EXPLODES, and never enters the 'vortex' thats created. i say, he's a bloody idiot.

another one of my doofy friends says im right except weir and miller probably got magically killed by the explosion although the rear part of the ship does go through the 'vortex'.

WHAT DO YOU THINK AMERICA

I don't remember either, and this is a DVD I'm afraid to buy because I keep hearing about longer cuts and uncensored versions. Would like to see it again, too.

FWIW, I'd say the ship probably exploded as it entered the vortex, so you're both right (or both wrong).

It's been awhile since I saw it too, but I think you're right. The explosives were in the middle section of the ship. The front part shoots to safety while the rear goes towards the vortex during the explosion.

Its been awhile since i have seen it, but I have to go with the middle section was blown up, and the back went into the vortex. Didn't they say something about that feature in the beginning of the movie?

the back end of the ship, with miller and weir, goes through the vortex. The front crew cabins with stark and cooper gets pushed to safety by the explosion of the mid-section.
My understanding is that the WHOLE ship was evil, so the crew cabin part is still alive, which is why stark has the dream of being rescued by weir at the very end.

I love this movie.

I only saw the movie once (in the theater), and I assumed the captain wasn't killed but rather sacrificed himself into "hell" to save the remaining crewmembers.

yeah thats what i think. it makes miller's sacrifice even more, as opposed to just dying. i mean JESUS CHRIST HE WENT INTO DIMENSION EVIL TO SAVE THEM WTF

When I saw the movie, I thought the ship stayed where it was and the people in the theater were sucked into the hell vortex.
