I just bought the tsr501 and have a problem that it doesn't covnert between formats. So my DVD recorder outputs in Component and the receiver accepts it, but it will then only output in component to my tv and my tv doesn't have component input (sony trinitron about 3 years old - don't know model number). Since my vcr outputs into the reciever via s-video - the s-video is used to send to the tv. Whatever it gets in, it outputs.

Does anyone know if the TSR 600 does the conversion or if there is some other way around this.

Temporarily I'm just using the s-video between the three of them, but I'd really love to use the compoent.

The 600 doesn't do any conversion either... Actually, I don't think there's very many receivers (well, at least entry or mid level receivers) that'll do that type of conversion.

Either way, I don't think you would see very much improvement from running component in to the receiver and s-video out - if anything it would degrade the signal a little.

Then you'll eventually need to upgrade your TV to one with component inputs.

Most receivers which can do the conversion are higher end units and even then they upconvert signals like composite to component, not the other way around.

Buying a new TV and running the component signal directly from your dvd player to the TV is going to give you the best picture quality in the long run.

Looks like I'll use s-video for a while then get a new tv.
