The original UK Deer Hunter was also anamorphic, correct? And dirt cheap too.

Been waiting for this... I'll wait and see if it shows up in R1 by the end of the year though before I buy it.

Do we know that the new version will have a new transfer, though?

And I don't mind the 2.0. The film wasn't designed with 5.1 in mind.

if you read the replies the Brits have on the news you will see that it will be confirmed shortly......or denied.

Interesting... As Warner is putting out the British SE, and Universal holds the U.S. rights, we may not see this SE here in the States.

I held off on buying the current R1 release for about 2 years, hoping an SE would eventually come out. Like Heliosphann, I'll give it some time to see if Universal announces the SE for R1 and if nothing by spring of '04, I'll pick this one up. Great, great flick!
