Snake Eyes: bulging bag o' shite
Popping "Snake Eyes" in the player, I wasn't expecting greatness. Just some mindless thrills and action during my daily workout. But I can't even recommend it for that! From 'Tropical Storm Jezebel' to Cage's hair plugs to the security camera in the indoor blimp (not to mention the pointless denouement), it was a sh^* sandwich to qoute Spinal Tap.
The opening sequence is passable, but this disc is not worth anyone's time. I was a fool to ignore all the bad reviews out there! Can't wait for the special edition to come out.

I always thought it would be a better movie if Cage actually takes the offer in the end and instead of having all the reporters at his house in the final shot someone ends up sniping him on a normal day.
1st 20 minutes was fine, but waste of my $10 in the theater

I liked it. I liked it a lot. Nicholas Cage doesn't bother me, and I've always like De Palma's style. He doesn't tell stories by having characters say what's ging on, he shows you what's going on. I think a lot of people have problems with this type of filmmaking, hence the critical division over Femme Fatale.

This movie was SUCH a dissapointment. I too saw it in the theater. I am a huge DePalma fan, but I am beginning to lose faith in him since Mission: Impossible(which I thought was great). Mission to Mars was lame too.
the von haze - Hey, at least this movie wasn't 8MM. Talk about CRAP!

In reference to De Palma's Femme Fatale:
Far from it. Several critics included it in their 10 best of 2002 lists. I'd have to check later who the specific critics were, but I know it ranked 19th on the Village Voice end of year poll, between In Praise of Love and 24 Hour Party People.

There was "division" over that film? I thought that was universally panned.

As far as Snake Eyes goes it has several bravura sequences (the opening stedi-cam shot, the surveillance camera scene, the scene in the hotel hallway with the keg cracked me up) but the ending is SO BAD, and there is ZERO suspense because it's revealed who the badguy is so early.

I really liked it. Would've loved it had the lead character not been so annoying.
In terms of the process, de palma's camera is golden. All the images on the screen were always interesting to watch and beautifully played. Koepp's screenplay was pretty standard.
Carla cugino, as usual, was lovely to look at.
Kind of like that other master of the suspense genre's choices in leading actresses. Forgot his name.
De Palmian scale:
1 up from mission to mars
1 below raising cain
