What concerts have you sat in the front row at?

So...what concerts have you experiences sitting in the front row in front of the stage?

I sat front row in the Jerry Cantrell/Nickelback tour. And it was a damn amazing show.

^That was the only time I sat in the front row of a concert.

But...I just bought a few tickets to see Carlos Santana on July 22nd this coming summer, and guess what? Those tickets are front row seats.

I don't sit at the front row of concerts that much. I'm a major concert goer, I go to a lot of them, but the Jerry Cantrell/Nickelback show was the only time I sat in the front row.

I can't wait to sit at front row in the Carlos Santana show, who is one of my favorite musicians who I adored for a long time. Santana is god.

Def Leppard & Motley Crue in '83 (San Diego). One song into Def Leppard's set, my glasses fogged up and the barrier was way too high for me too see anything and with 30,000 people pressing up against me, I had everyone throw me over the barrier and told security to "get me out of here". I think it was the last show Rick Allen played with 2 arms.

I sat, errr, stood in the front row for Metallica at the Stone Balloon in Newark DE during their And Justice For All tour. It was pretty cool actually. 11 bucks a ticket and the Stone Balloon is basically a bar with a stage. It was a pretty up close and personal show.

I've never "sat" in a front row but have managed to weed my way to front in a standing crowd a few times.

Tool (several times)
Godsmack
System of a Down
Deftones

Are the ones I can think off the top of my head.

My wife and I have season tickets so we are always in the center of the 4th row for all the performances we go to. It is mostly for plays and shows like Cirque de Soleil and the Shaolin Monks along with the occasional concert. The past couple of years we have gone to see both James Taylor and BB King. It was great seeing some of the old masters up close.

James Taylor at the Mud Island Ampitheater twice (86' and 87'). Great shows- very intimate and affordable (15.50 and 17.50 respectively).

Warren Zevon- various venues (five times)

I can't imagine going to a concert, then sitting thru it, unless its classical. To have tickets for the floor, and sit is an even larger travesty, unless you are in a wheelchair.

That said, the only mainstream band I've been close to was REM, where I ended up with my chin against the stage right under mike mills, when the security guards let us rush the barricade once the press was done with their 3 songs.

hmm... Reverend Horton Heat once, and then Moby, twice. While the music wasn't totally amazing at the Moby show, the performance + lightshow was something that I don't think I'll ever forget.

Just about every concert I've been to hehe. Plus or minus maybe 3 rows.

Tool (lots until I started getting reserved seating)
NIN
Primus
Opeth
Dredg
The list goes on. I just got back from a concert, so I'm a little out of it.

Only a few that were not GA....

Iron Maiden (7th Son)
Springsteen (about 2 years ago)
Cheap Trick (a few times)
Whitesnake/Scorpions (recently)
Black Crows (Southern Tour)

I actually prefer to sit right on the side a couple of rows up.

I've been to quite a few shows in the first several rows but the closest I've been to front row was second row dead center for Kiss in 2000. Based on the "fans" I saw standing in the front row, I think the only way I could have secured those seats was if I worked at a strip club

I really hate concerts where there is seating - the one that springs to mind is when Orbital headlined Lollapalooza @ Nissan Pavillion.

No Doubt on the Tragic Kingdom tour at the (now) Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix. Not really a fan of the band, but I knew someone who worked at a Tower Records at the time, and I figured it'd be worth it to get good seats with friends. We stood in the narrow section between the seats and the stage. I remember thinking, "Nice abs, Gwen, but do you really have to swear so much in front of your 11-year-old fans?" Which was another sign that I was becoming a grumpy not-quite-so-young man.

Wow! I got a tape of that show, I think! Is that the show where they did almost all of "Kill 'Em All" and even called up people onstage to sing some of the songs James forgot the lyrics to?

Sat in the front row for:

Magnetic Fields at Great American Music Hall, San Francisco (no seats but they asked everyone to sit down on the floor and I was in front)
Ron Sexsmith at Lefty O'Doul's, San Francisco

Stood in the "front row" for:

Tindersticks at The Supper Club, NYC
Nick Cave at House of Blues, New Orleans
NIN at Pepsi Coliseum, Indianapolis
Sepultura in Pennsauken, NJ (I think that's where it was - wish I could remember the name of the club)
Metallica at Veteran's Stadium, Philadelphia
King Diamond at TLA, Philadelphia
