The last two "Grand Theft Auto" games have provided an immersive story with multiple coinciding missions. The next one is due out in 2004. A month later, "Grand Theft Auto 3" and "Vice City" finish exclusive run on Sony's PlayStation 2 and will be available for Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube.

Anyone who owns an XBox is still going to have to wait another year and a half at least to play a GTA game. I think that anyone who will have wanted to play GTA bad enough will have bought a PS2 or have gotten it for PC by then.
There's also been rumblings, according to PSM, that GTA4 is going to be a PS3 launch title.
