What the Fox?

So I'm wathcing the Family Guy commentaries, and it's great while it's going, but all of a sudden it goes all silent for a minute or two and then it picks back up, obviously in mid-conversation - these are not natural pauses.

So even though the commentaries are laced with profanity, Fox still found a way to edit them down. Which is really no big surprise since they are the most litigious studio out there - just look at all the forced warnings you have to sit through when you put in one of their dvds.

Normally I wouldn't care about an edited commentary, but these are hilarious and really fun, and when those breaks happen it really kills the whole point.

BTW, on one of the commentaries they do mention the occational pixilating and the reason for it. When they needed a scene to go on a little longer, insetead of sending it back to animation they'd instead just hit the "pause button" and that's when the image would break up - it's not a bad transfer - that's in the original masters.

Anyways - I'm mostly bummed because there are some brilliant moments in the commentary (like the voice actors going off in-character and cussing and being really, really funny) that are cut short because some lawyer's got a bug up his ass about something.

Maybe its a point where it was necessary to cut them due to legal reasons or maybe it was too off topic. Many commentaries are edited, and sometimes in mid sentence. Airplane for example, the group sort of went into talking about the Shaft remake, and got cut off, and a few seconds later they were talking about the movie. In Mallrats, during the Stan Lee sequence, there is a part when Kevin mentions a comic book writer who was angry for some reason, but his name got cut. So studios sometimes have to edit commentaries

btw, nice very discriptive title

It still doesn't make sense though since its just a running commentary and it always says 'these views do not express the opinions of blah blah blah'

Now after listneing to all of the commentaries, it's become painfully obvious that there were commentaries recorded for every episode which have been obviously jettisoned.

There are numerous references to topics and comments wich reference the commentary wich just aren't there and therefore don't make sense.

I'm more pissed at this chopped up commentary than if they had just never recorded one in the first place. Mostly because what's there is so great and makes me angry that were missing so much for no good reason.
