What's up with "Rabbit-Proof Fence"?

Phillip Noyce's acclaimed "Rabbit-Proof Fence" was released today and I was anxious to rent a copy. Netflix almost immediately put it in the "Very Long Wait" category (which means they never got a copy or they're all rented out). The two local Hollywood Videos I checked didn't have it in their inventory, and neither did the two closest Blockbusters. I checked one more Blockbuster, -one that has its rentals for a buck cheaper than most others, -and they actually had two copies in their inventory. I'm a little surprised that only one store out of six was carrying this title....

I bought a copy today, but when I went to my Blockbuster (I mean Satan) store, I only noticed one copy.

Don't rent it, buy it! Absolutely amazing film.

I just got it in the mail from Netflix today. So, they got it.

Do I have the only copy? Better watch it soon then.

It's a wonderful film and one that is about, and partly filmed, in my home state of Western Australia. As proud as I am of being Australian, the events of this film fills me with sadness and regret about a very dark chapter of our (sometimes shameful) history.

Mine sez 'short wait'. They must know you are going to watch it soon and send it back in. Thanks.

I just got mine from Netflix today too. But I have to watch "Spirited Away" first, so I won't get to watch it 'til this weekend! Sorry guys...

I noticed that Family Video only had one copy of it for rent as well (one dvd and one vhs anyway).....i find that a crying shame. Easily one of the best movies of the last year....absolutely stunning.

I bought it at Best Buy on Tuesday.....$19.99 wasn't too bad, and the best price available anywhere.....Just go buy it...it's worth every penny.

It looks like the only 'extra' ported over from the R4 edition is the docu: "Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence". What other extra's are on the R4 Double disc edition?

I did youse guys a favor. I got the movie from Netflick on Thurs and returned it on Fri

Excellent movie with great supplemental material. The 45 minutes documentary on the casting could be a movie by itself. I didn't get to the commentary but I'll do that as soon as my order arrives

I just saw this movie last night, very nice movie. Definately worth a rental.

Be sure to watch the "making of" documentary after seeing the movie.

There is also a commentary track, but I didn't have time to watch it, and the movie is due back tonight.

My only real problem with the movie was that
Spoiler:
I was not convinced that the children could have survived without carrying water or food. Obviously they did since it is based on a true story, but it isn't clear how.

My wife and I recently watched this also. I really reallyenjoyed it. My wife was just about bored to tears at first, but she soon got into it and liked it also. Even my four year old son sat through the entire film without getting up or saying he was bored.

This movie is a great example of excellent fimmaking. I highly recommend it. It even holds the rare distinction of being appropriate for the whole family without having to dumb-down for younger viewers.
