Probably nothing. It's likely just part of a series of price drops.

The rights to this film have switched from Universal to Lion's Gate. My understanding is that the new (Lion's Gate) DVD is going to be basically identical to the previous one (same transfer, extras)... but we won't know for sure until the reviews come out.

If it doesn't have the documentary then the OOP Universal will be the one to seek out.

At the time of the initial home video release of "Gods & Monsters", Lion's Gate didn't have a home video department. They had to license their movies to other studios for home video release. Most of the time, Universal picked up their movies, but they passed on "Dogma" and Columbia/Tri-Star got the rights. Anyways, about a year ago Lion's Gate bought TriMark Home Entertainment and they've been releasing their own movies ever since. Now that Univeral's liceneses on Lion's Gate movies are starting to expire, Lion's Gate is re-releasing them through what used to be TriMark. However, I believe Universal probably owns all the supplements that they produced for the Lion's Gate films, although they may be willing to make a deal and give them the supplements to their films.

Just a bump to see if anyone has new information as to whether the upcoming release will have the commentary and documentary from the Universal release.

Thanks in advance

When will Universal re-release the Classic Monsters Series?

Gods and Monsters is a superb gem of a movie so when will Universal re-release their splendid original classic Monster Movies - which inspired this James Whale biopic - in new Special Editions as I believe these are all OOP?

The rumor is that Universal is waiting on the upcoming Van Helsing movie to re-release the Universal Classic Monsters titles.

I have written Lion's Gate to try to get an answer concerning the extras on the Gods and Monsters re-release.

So we have to wait until 2004 until these classic titles are
re-released?
