I just noticed that you can now get car stereos that will play mp3s.
Anyone here have one yet? If so, what do you have and how do you like it?

Not yet. But I will soon. My factory deck decided to stop playing CDs, so I'm looking at either a Clarion, Alpine, or Kenwood MP3 deck. For fun I went to Circuit City since they're doing free installation on anything $149 or more from anyone other than Alpine. I only found 2 decks that I liked. One for $400 and the other for $600. Both Alpines. I'm hoping to spend ~$250. I found one Kenwood deck I liked, but it would be $400 installed. I don't understand why everyone is selling silver decks now.

So you guys like the MP3 function? I download a radio show off the net and like to listen to it on CD in the car, but I can only get two 30 minute segments on each CD. So the MP3 player sounds perfect...

I have the Kenwood MPV 619,
What I like: Cool display (close to 60 different colors), has yet to skip, and in NY there are a lot of potholes, detachable face, plays all mp3 files, Satellite radio ready, remote control, shuffle thru folders.
What i don't like: no shuffle thru the whole disk (my biggest gripe), 1 button does 5 different things (depending on whether you're listening to tuner, CD or MP3).
thats all i can think of, overall, a great deck!!

Got one last Friday, Eclipse, installed for $350 (needed a Bose converter, thats why the cost was so high). Comes with a 3 year warranty, and if it is ever stolen, it will be replaced for free.
Anyways, mp3 capability is incredible. I have 150 songs burned to a CD and keep random on at all times. It's better than having a 6 disc CD changer.
One thing I must advise, stick with Alpine or Eclipse. A lot of the mp3 players in places like Best Buy rely on gimmicks (i.e. multi color displays) and deliver subpar sound. Do your homework and you'll end up with something good.

Just took a road trip from Seattle to San Francisco. On 11 MP3 CDs, I put literally days of music. It was great to put in my Beatles or Dave Matthews Band album CDs, turn on random, and have hours and hours of music. The JVC player that I have has received outstanding reviews, and is a very "serious" looking player.. I hate the ones with the animated displays, and such. (The large CD icon in the picture can be turned off, and the extra space used for more letters.)

I was waiting for Alpine to put out a new model with MP3 capability and a screen (I have a trailblazer, and the single din style radios look like crap in the din and a half spaces...).
Until then, the Iriver SlimX 400 is doing just fine for me, via tape deck and it's remote...
