Tobey Maguire may be out for "Amazing Spider-Man"

This rate a big "Ugh!" if Jake Gyllenhaal takes up the reins, it'd be a step backwards in Peter Parker's nerdiness.

Jake Gyllehhaal would suck major balls as Spider-man. Not that I don't dislike him, but I can't see him playing this role. Hell, you never know - maybe he could be good. He just seems so damn mopey all of the time. Spider-man would be a major acting stretch for him.

Jeez, why can't the studio just push the movie back 6 months or a year if they need to? Changing actors for the sequel is never a good idea -- look at what happened with the Batman sequels. Maguire needs to be in Spidey 2 for it to be a success, he was the best thing about the first one by far.

According to Dark Horizons, Jake's agent has already said that his client is not in the running.

While there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of this happening, I would like to see Nicholas Brendan (Xander on Buffy) take over the role should Tobey opt out.

But being 32 years old, and not to mention the fact he's put on a few pounds doesn't help matters. It's a shame though he doesn't get more movie roles than what he does (Demon Island anyone?), because he's got great comedic timing.

I think this is horrible news. I really enjoyed how Tobey portrayed Peter Parker as geek and goof. He solidified the movie and made Spidey the most human comic movie character. I second Nicholas Brendon but, he is a little old and chubby for the part. I don't think anyone else could take over the role.

Tobey already renegotiated his deal for $17 million on "Amazing Spider-Man". I'm sure he wants to do this film!

I don't think replacing Toby with Jake Gyllenhaal would do anything but riun the franchise.
Not that Gyllenhall can't act or I have anything against him, I've personally never seen any of his work, but changing the actor for such an iconic role in the first sequal just wouldn't "feel" right. It really wouldn't be Spider-man...just the guy playing Spider-man.
As for James Bond, Connery had numerous Bonds under his belt when he left. After sequal two or three, it seems more acceptable.

He should have a bad back. After all, the success of the first film rests firmly on his shoulders.
And Sony knows it.
Let's just say they won't be letting the cuffs out on the spandex, shall we?
