Greatest vocalists
I was listening to Audioslave in the car and got around to thinking about who the greatest vocalists in music are (were). I know I'm forgetting tons of people, but here's the start of my list. Anybody care to contrinbute a name, or challenge one of my choices?

While I'm here, I figured I'll give a shout out to What's His Name? from Opeth. He's the only guy I know who's mastered the br00tal death growl, but can also *actually sing* when he feels like it!

His name is Mikael Akerfeldt. Also the singer of Shadows Fall combines "real" vocals and screams and sounds pretty damn good.
Also on the list is Axl Rose and James Hetfield.

Eva Cassidy probably had the most pure, powerful, natural voice I have ever heard. She was absolutely amazing.
It is very puzzeling to me why to this day she is not a very well recognized singer/musician when her talent was so great and yet cut too short.
You know there is something special when you can bring an entire audience to tears by singing a song.
I suggest everyone here into music find a recording of hers. My suggestion would be Eva By Heart or Live at Blues Alley.

Allison Krause has the best singing voice I've ever heard.
Sure, she sings bluegrass/country-pop, but when she did that duet with Pavarotti of Ave Maria, she blew him out of the water.

Mariah Carey hands down. She is the #1 best selling female artist of all time after all. In terms of the most number of #1 Singles, she's just behind Elvis and The Beatles. Some people don't give her all the respect and recognition she deserves.
