This list is definitely a "my personal faves" because I don't watch nearly enough TV to make any outrageous "These episodes are better than *anything* shown on TV in a decade!" claims.
1. Seinfeld: The Marble Rye. The final scene where George is "fishing" for the rye out the window is priceless.
2. Seinfeld: The Soup Nazi. Classic.
3. Seinfeld: The Little Kicks. I think that's the name of the one where Elaine dances (badly).
4. Seinfeld: The Opposite. George decides to do the exact opposite of what his gut tells him; I think this ep also marks the start of his job w/ the Yankees.
5. Simpsons: Don't know the name, but it's the one where the new girl Alison shows up and she's better than Lisa at everything. Contains what is perhaps the greatest Ralph Wiggum performance ever - "I bent my Wookiee," "What's a diorama?"
Both shows began their runs over 10 years ago, but I think all the episodes I mentioned are no more than 10 years old.

I appreciate that you've qualified the difference between "favorite" and "best." I've always considered this to be two different things as well.
10 years, eh? That's going to be tough, maybe even impossible. Considering how unlikely it is that any show will have two episodes in the Top 5 of the Decade, essentially I'm having to pick the best episode ever of 5 different shows, something that's not too easy with just one. 10 years is a long time. I'm going to have to disappear to my lab (i.e. I'm going to go watch a movie) and return later after some thought.

1. X-Files - "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" Peter Boyle was great is this episode, as was Mulder's stand in, who played Yappi the Psychic
2. Mad About You - "Natural History" after arguing about not being able to spend the afternoon together, Paul and Jamie run into each other in a museum (This isn't the Guggenheim.)
3. Seindfeld - "The Contest" I was literally rolling on the floor laughing my ass off the first time I saw this. Literally.
4. Buffy - "Surprise/Innocence" A great two parter that changed everything. As a bonus contains on of the funniest moments of the show ever (What's that do?)
5. Either the Soprano's pilot episode, or Xena's "The Debt: Parts 1&2".

I'm trying to re-imagine scenes from the episode with Lisa Kudrow's voice -
Alison's Dad: Do you want to play the anagram game?
Alison: We take proper names, then rearrange the letters to form a description of that person.
Alison's Dad: Alec Guinness.
Alison: Um...."genuine class."
Alison's Dad: Jeremy Irons.
Lisa: Uhhh......Jeremys.....Iron.
das - Don't forget your Bunsen burner (popcorn) and Erlenmeyer flasks (chips).

Hmmm....last 10 years?
1. Babylon 5: The Coming of Shadows
2. Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light
3. Buffy: Once More With Feeling
4. Sports Night: Hmmm...any episode... Eli's Coming, perhaps?
5. Seinfeld: The Contest
I know I should probably include a "West Wing" episode in there somewhere, but I'm not sure which one. Or something from MSCL either.

It's weird that you chose the last 10 years, considering your first choice is more than 10 years old.
This is pretty hard list to make. I'd have to do at least divide dramas and comedies. My list would be mostly Buffy on the drama, something like:
1. The Body
2. The Gift
3. Restless
4. OMWF
5. Becoming pt2
My comedy list would have to include my favorite Simpsons episode, Treehouse of Horror 4. It would also include a couple Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes. I can't think of what else I'd put on there. If this was of all time, I'd put a couple Police Squad episodes on there.

Man, so, so hard... here's a few to throw out there (some are already mentioned)...
in no order:
- Sopranos season 3 finale
- Six Feet Under's next to last episode of season 2 (or the finale, but I'd give the slight edge to the former)
- Seinfeld - The Contest (of course)
- South Park - so hard to pick one, but Osama Has Farty Pants is so, so, so good!... and the Sea Men episode would probably me #2
- 24 Season 1 Finale
- Curb Your Enthusiasm - Krazy Eyez Killa! ("Scarface 24/7"!!)
- Curb Your Enthusiasm - The Doll
- Curb Your Enthusiasm - The Shrimp Incident
- and sue me, but on any best episode list, I can't help but remember the Friend's episode with the Prom tape
and I've never gotten into Buffy, The West Wing, Sports Night, Alias, X-Files, or The Shield... though I do plan to check out The Shield on DVD very, very soon!!

Almost impossible to narrow it to 5...
1. Homicide: Life on the Street - [Dec. '94] "Crosetti" (Pembleton, alone in his dress blues at the end...forget about it. As emotional a moment as you'll ever see on TV.)
2. Homicide - [April '95] "Colors" (Bayless' cousin kills a teenager, and gets away clean. Searing and brilliantly acted.)
3. Homicide - [April '97] "Deception" (The Mahoney saga ends, and Kellerman's life slowly but surely spirals down...)
4. ER - [February '97] "The Long Way Around" (Ewan MacGregor guests in this great Fish Out Of Water story that takes place almost totally in a market being robbed. Robbed is what happened to Julianna Marguiles at Emmy time.)
5. - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine [April '98] "In The Pale Moonlight" (The most gut-wrenching show in the history of the whole franchise. Sometimes, you've got to do bad things to get good results. Avery Brooks tore it up in this episode. Brilliant.)

All right, here goes my two cents worth:
1. Sopranos 3rd season finale
2. Alias post-Super Bowl show
3. Friends "The One With the Prom Video"
4. Law and Order "Aftershock" (Jill Hennessey's last show)
5. Seinfeld "The Betrayal" (the backwards episode)
Man, that's a tough list. No ER? No Simpsons? Not even one reference to Just Shoot Me? Tough list...

1 (3-way tie) - Law & Order D-Girl
Law & Order Turnaround
Law & Order Showtime
4. Law & Order Nullification
5. Law & Order Under the Influence
The top-3 were the 3-part L.A. trilogy.
