Radiohead: New LP 6/10/03 (!!!)
Let the countdown begin...............
From our friends at Pitchforkmedia.com:
According to the kind and proper folks over at New Musical Express, Radiohead have announced a drop date for their brand new full-length. The new record, which will be the group's sixth studio effort, will be released on June 9th, with the first single set to hit the shelves on May 16th. The record is said to be operating under two different working titles: 2+2=5 and Are You Listening. The poll-winning Pitchfork staff choice, We Smell Another 10.0, has been abjectly refused by Capitol Records. There's no word yet on which track is expected as the first single, but fansite Greenplastic.com has speculated that it may be "Where I End and You Begin".
As for new juice on what may be contained within: According to XFM, Keith Rosencroft of Parlophone Records told guests at an exclusive record company showcase that the new album was currently in the mixing stage at a Los Angeles studio where the band have been working with producer Nigel Godrich. Rosencroft stated that Yorke gives a particularly "emotional" performance. So... what can we tell you? All we've heard are the live versions bootlegged from shows in Spain and Portugal-- judging from those, the album should continue in the dark vein of Kid A and Amnesiac, with less of the electronic embellishments those records so favored. Then again, live versions of Radiohead songs tend to differ greatly from the studio recordings, so it's just plain impossible to know.
105 days to go..........

Only thing:
I am not to keen on the cd being titled 2+2=5. I like Are You Listening, though.
I think it fits, because the title asks
"Are you listening" because a lot of fans disliked Kid A and Amnesiac. (I love every album)
But we all know Thom and company don't give a ****.

I hope that Radiohead go back to their Roots with this one. I used to be a huge Radiohead fan a few years back but I kind of grew out of them after Kid A. I really liked their first 3 cds though I hope this one is more like those..

One of a small group of modern rock bands that I even care an inch about... Personally, I'm glad to hear more along the lines of Kid A and Amnesiac, both are brilliant records.

A math teacher I had back in the day had a poster that read "2+2=5 For very large values of 2." Sorry, random thought, I had to throw it out there.

I hope to God that Radiohead don't go back to their roots. There is nothing more boring IMO than a band re-recording the same album.
Can't wait to hear this record!

Radiohead is one of those bands which changes with every album they put out. There is no "Radiohead sound" but rather a "Radiohead emotion". The songs may sound completely different, and lyrics about totally different issues, but the emotion you feel when you listen to their music is always there. As long as this new album puts out that same emotion, I will be one happy listener.

I'm sure we'll get something different. The only albums of theres that sound anything alike are Kid-A and Amenesiac, and that's because they were recorded/written and the same time and are more of a double album than 2 separate albums.
BTW, there's another thread here that had links to mp3s of the new songs (live versions I believe). I didn't bother with them as I never had the time to DL them on dial up, but it's worth checking out, assuming the thread didn't get closed/edited and the links aren't dead.
