Greatest Game Intros?

I finally picked up MOHAA: Spearhead the other day and installed it last night. Holy crap is the beginning awesome! From the Ken Burns-style letter reading over actual newsreel footage to the opening of the first mission I had to scrape my jaw off the ground--this series just screams polish and production value.

What other intros have made you go slack-jawed?

I've always thought those boys over at Blizzard do a bang up job on their intros. Diablo II, Starcraft, and Warcraft II had some great intros IMO.

Blizzard is top notch. independence war had a 15 minute intro that was really nice. The command and conquer games had pretty good ones.

"Dragon's Lair! The fantasy adventure where you become a valiant knight on a quest to rescue the fair princess from the clutches of an evil dragon...."

Possibly the first animated game intro, and it made more of a lasting impression on me than any of the CGI / multimedia stuff that's been done since.

I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I'd rather just start playing the game. Ditto with in-game cutscenes. If it is longer than minute or so or if they use cutscenes too often, I find myself yelling "Just let me play the game!"

I usually am too, however, this time I couldn't help but be but entranced, that's what I mean by truly being great.

Full Throttle - HANDS DOWN

Never before had I gotten so pumped about a game from the first 15 minutes of play. You punch your way out of a dumpster after getting knocked out. Kick down a bar door, and rough up the bartender...all in the name of biker justice. That game was awesome!

Damn, I almost forgot. Gran Turismo 3. I love cranking that up full blast on my surround sound system.

I like Metal Gear Solid 2's opening. Snake walking down the Brooklyn Bridge with that kick ass music playing.

Final Fantasy VIII. Didn't really like the game, got to the last boss but never beat it. But the opening cinema was pretty awesome.

FF8 all the way baby. With the choir singing and swords clanging. Almost makes me want to hook it up again.

Final Fantasy VIII and Suikoden 3.

And oh my God: Wild Arms. The only game I've ever watched the intro for EVERY time I played the game. God I love that song.

Don't mean to threadcrap, but good god, that was the George Washington bridge. If Snake had bungeed off of the Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian walkway, he would have dived straight down into traffic! :P This also gets my vote for BEST intro!

That being said.. Double Dragon had a pretty pimp intro. Girl just standing around, thug punches her in the gut, takes her away.. pure genius! Seriously, that's all you need, these modern day game intros are jokes.

Ones that stand out in my mind right now are the openings to Fallout 1 & 2, Diablo, Starcraft, and Mechwarrior 2.
