What movies do you try to tell everyone they should see that they wouldnt otherwise see. Mine are
Killer-I say this movie everytime some joker praises the shootout in heat.

Equilibrium (I actually dragged several people to a theatre to see this)

When I worked at a video store back in the late 80's early 90's, I used to always tell people to rent the following movies.

Bagdad Cafe
Slamdance
Dead of Winter
Positive ID
Blood Simple
Better Off Dead
Near Dark

Lovely and Amazing
Mindwalk
Watch It
Blood Simple
Safe
Election
Zero Effect
Passion of Joan of Arc

All of these are films I try to introduce to my friends/family. Although I do get some resistance now after sitting with my familly through Donnie Darko and having all of them hate it (I personally loved it).

I pretty much don't, unless it's someone I know is into offbeat movies.

I've introduced a few friends to Blue Velvet, After Hours (video, of course), and Reservoir Dogs (which they mostly weren't as partial to), but they don't live around me anymore, so it's a bit more challenging.

Human Traffic

The english TV shows Spaced and The Office

Bend It Like Beckham

... and I'm in America, which accounts for their obscurity here. BILB's getting a US release, so yay! to that. HT is out here, but the DVD's cut by fifteen minutes (thanks Mirimax). The English shows are getting their due one by one on BBC America and Bravo, so let's hope for Father Ted-Coupling-level success.

Also:

The Commitments
Kevin Smith films

One movie I like to spread the word about is Insignificance. I believe it comes out on DVD today. It concerns a night when Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Joe McCarthy, and Joe DiMaggio all rendezvous in a hotel room in the 1950s.
Is it great? No. But, it is quirky enough, with an intelligent script. Plus, watching MM explaining relativity to Einstein is pretty much worth the price of admission.

Cube
Donnie Darko
Requiem for a Dream

Lately, Bowling for Columbine

My favorite director is David Lynch, but I only recommend his films to people who I know would appreciate his weirdness.

SECONDS - a film by John Frankenheimer that ranks with his best, and stars Rock Hudson in his best role. This is a bone-chilling movie that is one of my "top 10 of all time", and is available on DVD with commentary.
