Hollywood A-lister Dustin Hoffman is furious with mega studio Disney for failing to promote his latest film adequately. The veteran Oscar winner stars in Moonlight Mile, which is loosely on the life of writer/director/producer Brad Silberling, who saw his girlfriend Rebecca Schaeffer killed by an obsessed fan in 1989. The $20 million dollar film was pulled from American screens in December after only recouping some $7 million. Hoffman rages, "Disney dumped it. They didn't even watch it. There was no advertising. I think it really hurt Brad. That's why I am here...to support a piece of work that I am really proud of."

I remember seeing trailers, and commercials, and I remember seeing the stars go on talk shows. I just didn't want to see it.

Geesh, I remember lots of advertising for this movie. Constantly. What does Dustin Hoffman want? This isn't the type of material that's instant blockbuster. If it's a good movie, then it's a good movie. Be proud of it and get over it. It's not like they didn't release it or advertise it at all. It got an adequate release but just didn't do well.

This film really wasn't that good (Sorry brad siberling) but the performances by dustin hoffman, Susan sarandon and jake gyllenhaal were terrific and should of been backed up by the studio for oscar consideration.

Same here. I had no desire to see the movie, but every day I watched TV I'd have to watch an utterly crappy commercial for the movie and I saw at least two of the major stars on several talk shows selling the flick.

Some movies people can't be marketed into watching.

I don't think I ever saw a tv spot or trailer (maybe on that coming attractions on e! but that's it).

But Hoffman should understand that sometimes films don't click with audiences. And he has had plenty of those kinds of films.

I saw the trailer before 'About Schmidt' and it looks like a movie I would wait for as a rental.

Never once saw a television spot and I never even realized it had come out. I saw a release date for DVD and was confused because I assumed it had yet to come out. So I can only speak for myself, but I would agree that Disney did a pretty horrible job of handling this one.

As one of the apparently few who saw Moonlight Mile I have to say it was an excellent film with great performances and it's too bad nobody saw it, whatever the reason. I'll take it over The Hours or Adaptation.

I don't know if Hoffman is right in blaming Disney but he is right to be proud of the film.

Maybe if Hoffman used his head a bit more with regards to his career, he wouldn't have a string of bombs lined up since Rainman.
Don't worry Dustin, we moviegoers are not morons. We don't need to have a studio shove ads for a film down our throat until we're browbeaten into seeing them. If we want to see your movie, we'll find it.
Don't blame Disney for not publicizing the movie, blame yourself for making a movie that most people have no interest in seeing. Yes, you want to be faithful to your "art" and make serious, important movies, but don't forget that it is a business first and foremost.

I liked it.
I think people were turned off by the previews because the movie was about Death.
They would rather go see Kangaroo Jack.
I think Disney promoted if well, I blame the audience for making crap movies become the top ten hits each week.
I mean, listen to the people on here.
If you want to blame Dinsey for anything, blame them for basterizing their animated movies with new sequels to the classic cartoons.

No matter how much promoting Disney would have done, I would not have gone and sceen the movie.

Disney figures it will break (or somewhat close) even with DVD, VHS, Cable, TV...
