Help Freaks and Geeks get a DVD release

All fans of Freaks and Geeks here in the TV Forum should get over to this link and sign up. Hopefully some DVDs will get out one day. I have all of them on tape, but it's just not the same.

http://www.freaksandgeeks.com/dvd/index.html

As you may know, we have been trying to get the show released on DVD for the past year, but it has been difficult due to the cost of the music you hear on the episodes. The only way we can get Dreamworks to buy the rights to the original music and release the DVD is by showing them that a lot of people would buy it if it was for sale.

Please keep in mind, the show is in the red in a major way. Dreamworks has lost a great deal of money on this project. They have been very supportive, but they certainly aren't looking to lose more money on our cancelled show. They would just like to be less in the red. So, be assured, nobody will get rich off of this. We are simply proud of the show and would like to have it available to the fans in its original form.

If it was released we would try to include a lot of fun extras such as commentary tracks, clips of the original audition tapes of our cast, deleted scenes, set photography, previous drafts of the teleplays, uncut dailies of the actors working, and tons of behind the scenes footage. So in order to make this happen we have set up a mailing list for people who are interested in showing their support for the "Freaks and Geeks" DVD.

Everyone who puts their name on the list will be contacted as soon as the DVD is available, but more importantly, you will be showing Dreamworks how many people would be interested in owning all of the episodes of the series, and you'd be helping to insure that the show will be released in its original form.

Hopefully some of you will spread the word that this list exists and well encourage others to sign up as well. Thanks for your continued support, and hopefully we can make this happen before the third "Lord of the Rings" is released.

I signed it when it first was posted, but I'm glad to read that they're planning on getting the rights to the original music. That's important.

How many episodes were there? They were an hour each right?

The price may be "right" considering the length of each episode (i.e. X-Files).

Eighteen episodes, at an hour a pop.

I have no qualms about the price. I'd be willing to pay a lot more, actually.

This is one of the shows where I'm not sure whether I'll be happy to have them or sad that there are only going to be 18 of them...ever.

Good going. The show would have been totally crippled without the soundtrack!

Freaks and Geeks DVD and Nice Guys

tvshowsondvd.com has a link to Variety where Paul Feig says the F&G dvd should be out in March. He also discusses his new show for HBO called Nice Guys. I dont have a subscription for Variety so I couldn't read the article. anyone have any info on this show? hopefully it will have a longer life on HBO than his other shows have had on the regular networks

Sex piques 'Geeks' guy for HBO pilot
Feig adds 'Nice' new skein to cabler

By MICHAEL FLEMING

In what sounds like a combination of his series "Freaks and Geeks" and "Sex and the City," Paul Feig has made a deal with HBO to script the pilot "Nice Guys." The comedy revolves around a trio of nerdy male co-workers looking for love in a superficial date market.
Also featured is an overweight female masseuse who is so taken by the hunky guys she rubs up against at work that she can't commit to the paunchy guys who are interested in her.

"Just as 'Freaks and Geeks' was a realistic version of the high school experience for many people, this will lay out what normal guys go through as young adults," Feig said. "I'm talking about the guys who aren't superficial jerks and would actually make good husbands if women would just stop and notice."

Much like "Sex and the City," "Nice Guys" will take advantage of the looser rules of doing the show for HBO. For one thing, geeks are Internet experts, so there will be plenty of online porn.

"This will be about both singular love as well as couple love, but the main idea is to make the show racy in an honest way," Feig said.

"Every character is representative of the earnest weaknesses we all have," he added. "They're sweet guys who are their own worst enemies."

WMA is putting the pilot together.

Feig felt "Freaks and Geeks" never got its due, despite winning critical acclaim. However, it has gained cult popularity, and episodes will be released on DVD in March, complete with deleted scenes.

Feig also has a deal with Imagine to create a sci-fi series, and he just scripted and directed the Walden Media feature "I Am David," due out in early 2004.

And after putting his geek reminiscences into essay form with the book "Kick Me," Feig is writing a second book, "Superstud" for Random House imprint Three Rivers Press.

Date in print: Thurs., Aug. 7, 2003, Los Angeles
