Final Destination question with SPOILERS so don't read if you haven't seen it
I saw Final Destination 2 in the theater, so I went back and rented Final Destination again. As far as I can tell, Alex survived the first film (the sign missed him and swung back for Carter), so why is he dead in the sequel? Did I miss a throwaway line in the beginning of the sequel that explains this, or did the sequel's filmmakers prefer the original alternate ending when Alex is indeed dead and forget that it was "alternate"? Please tell me what I'm missing.

Alex decided to not make Final destination 2 because he landed better deals with these great films:
Extreme Dating
Trespass
Extreme Ops
They had to write him out somehow since he wouldn't do it.

What'd you think of that hokey finale at the very end? It cheapened the whole flick in my opinion, although I still enjoyed it...
