Josh, I considered starting a thread for George Lazenby, but since he has only one film (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) I thought it would be somewhat pointless. (Can you even have a poll with only one selection?)
Seriously though, thanks for starting the thread. I am curious to know what folks think of Lazenby’s only Bond film, especially in contrast to the other films.

Good thread.
Actually, I like Lazenby. He definitely plays up the playboy Bond to a T, but he also takes his knocks as well. I will always have a thing for Dianna Rigg, and she really brought a certain something, a class, to Bond that has never been duplicated. OHMSS is kind of the serious, dramatic Bond flick. If you ever find yourself tiring of the over the top all out extraveganza Bonds, throw in OHMSS for a change - it really is a different movie.

Before you ridicule that movie, check it out.
It's got some crazy camera work in it. A lot of it reminded me of Sam Raimi. It is seriously not a Bond movie to write off (like Moonraker for instance).
Lazenby doesn't just pull a Justin Timberlake by just looking at the camera and going, "Wha?", either.
He got the bad rap of "he won't be Bond again" for some reason, but this flick was one of my favorites of the series.
Not to mention my favorite Bond villain gets the last laugh!

It took me forever to finally see this Bond flick (saw it on Thanksgiving) & after hearing all i heard about it....
I liked it. I suppose at the time it was difficult to see someone else as Bond but seeing it in 2002 it was easy after all the other people have been Bond.
It reminds me alot of "From Russia with Love" because its a more serious Bond flick and there is actual spying involved.
I particularly enjoyed the bobsled fight

I think "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the best Bond movies. I think Lazenby was a bit too James Bland, but not enough to detract from what is arguably one of the best Bond screenplays.
I don't know what it is, but I just cannot get myself to watch any Bond movie with Roger Moore. Haven't seen one yet and can't say that I have any desire to do so.

I agree with Mutley Hyde, that Diana Rigg was great in this movie.

Technically, I suppose you could say George Lazenby played James Bond twice.
In 1983 there was a TV movie reviving the old Man from U.N.C.L.E. series, titled "The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E." If I recall correctly, there was a car chase scene in Las Vegas, where Napoleon Solo was being chased by Russian agents. He is saved by a British agent wearing a tuxedo, driving an Aston Martin loaded with gadgets and a license plate reading "JB," and played by none other than Lazenby. Not exactly a subtle reference to 007 by any means.
So if you count that appearance, 1983 is actually a very unique year for James Bond. It is the only year that the three original actors that played him, all returned to play him again. (Lazenby in "Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.", Roger Moore in "Octopussy," and Sean Connery in "Never Say Never Again.")

I also think OHMSS is one of the best Bond films. For those that watched the documentary on the DVD, despite the low box office turnout for the film, the crew wanted him back for more films. It was Lazenby's agent who announced through the media that Lazenby wouldn't do any more Bond films, because he was afraid he would be typecast or wouldn't be able to get any other work in the future. I would have liked to see what Lazenby could do with time to grow into the role.

Yeah, this movie is vastly underrated. Lazenby was a bit stiff, but you could see that he had pleanty of room to grow. He would have been a fine Bond in a movie or two.
Ah well. . . .

George Lazenby made a great Bond I thought, though I'm also in the group of people that didn't see anything wrong with Timothy Dalton (maybe he was a LITTLE to serious). It is hard to judge by one movie how he would have fared in future movies since OHMSS had great cast, one of the best storylines, and a very memorable score.

Bottom line: He didn't come back because they got Connery back for one more movie.
I love Lazenby, and I love OHMSS. Great movie.

After watching the first couple in order, they could have ended it with OHMSS.
Personally, I'm glad Connery wasn't cast as Bond in this film, I don't think it would have worked.

But I digress. We agree on this being a great movie, so let's leave it at that.

After lying dormat for almost three years to the day, rise, thread, rise!
I am having a James Bond marathon (watching chronologically) and I am just finished this one. After seeing Connery as Bond for the previous 5 in such a short period of time, Lazenby just didn't do it for me. I also hate those inside jokes to the audience (the line about the other guy not having this happen to him).
I'm not saying that it wasn't a good movie, just one that I wish Connery would have continued being Bond for (although I am not sure how well he would have fit this particular Bond iteration...I am sure they would have tailered the movie more towards Connery's strengths).
