Best James Bond Film w/Sean Connery
I am in the market to purchase a few of the Bond films, but I really do not want every last one. Additionally, I thought it would be cool to own at least one movie per actor, so, I thought I would start a separate poll for each Bond actor. (Besides, there are over 20 Bond films and a DVDTalk Poll will only allow for 10 entries.) Recommendations appreciated.

From Russia with Love is very good, but I had to vote with the standard classic, Goldfinger. It's the standard answer for what 's the best Bond movie much like Citizen Kane is the standrad answer to what's the best american movie.

the first time i saw Thunderball i hated it.
long and boooooring.
now it strikes me as languid, mature, and sophisticated, with a threat that seems immediate and high stakes.
easily my favorite SC one.

Goldfinger wins out over From Russia with Love and Thunderball. Ask me later and it will always be one of these three. I think Goldfinger had a better packaged deal for the James Bond franchise. The other two were also great, with interesting plots.

Goldfinger is the only Bond movie that doesn't need to be judged by Bond standards; it's simply a great action flick! How many movie could be described as action-packed before 1964?
Goldfinger was influential on a number of levels: the Hayes code dumped in 1964 in favor of the current ratings system. Why? Because the MPAA was not about to ask UA to cut ***** Galore from the script, not for such a certain cash cow as Goldfinger. In the past, studios would just edit out lines of scenes (check out the featurette on the North by Northwest DVD) but editing out a main character would have been a bit too much.

Another Bond thread bump.
Just got through all of the Connery flicks (except for NSNA, which comes later and is not a true Bond flick, IMO). Of course, Diamonds are Forever was by far the weakest film of the lot. There seems to be a lot more than about a decade between the first film and DAF, since Connery seemed to age well over the 9 years between the movies.
I think that my favorite would be From Russia With Love, followed closely by Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice. I am tempted to say YOLT just for the Blofeld scenes. I was not overly impressed with Thunderball. Not a big fan of all of the underwater action.

From Russia with Love is not only my favorite Bond movie, it's one of my favorite movies period. It's the first movie I bought on DVD. The train fight was awesome, I love the theme song (without the lyrics), and it's more of a pure spy movie that is grounded in reality. Not a while lot of over the top gadgets. I really think that the Bond producers are trying to re-capture this movie as they proceed with making Casino Royale.
Goldfinger is very close behind it. It is the first movie where all the familiar elements came into play, and I probably quote that movie the most out of all the Bonds.

From Russia With Love. Connery's best and the best entry in the series to date. It's got a more confident(but still ruthless) Connery as Bond. The best Bond villain tandem in Rosa Klebb and Donald "Red" Grant. The introduction of Blofeld. John Barry's first score(which features the 007 theme). A great sidekick in Kerim Bay. Another funny cameo by Sylvia Trench. References to the previous Bond flick(a rarity in the series). And the great train fight between Bond and Grant, IMO the best scene in any Bond flick ever.

Thunderball has always been my favorite (mainly for Luciana Paluzzi), but I've always thought Goldfinger was the best overall. Certainly not Diamonds Are Forever, though.
