I have a copy of the DVD, and I think it's pretty good, except they didn't cover the entire battle and there's not much blood and gore in it.

You may want to drop whatever you're doing right now and track this one down - according to this thread, it is going out-of-print as we speak...

This is a great movie, and the DVD has LOTS of extras. Your dad will love it!

A civil war buff should appreciate this movie, it is well acted and definitely provides a bit of excitement. Since I'm not well versed in what happened I can't speak to the accuracy of the movie. Sounds like a good gift to me.

If your Dad is a civil war buff Gettysburg is a must have. He will totally enjoy it. The idea of taking him to see Gods and Generals is also great. I'm looking forward to the 21st myself

I saw Gettysburg with my entire Junior class in H.S. Needless to say it was grueling experience as I could not concentrate on the movie itself due to my classmates acting like total idiots all the way through the presentation.

Caught it later on vidoe and found it quite a good movie, just nothing exceptional. Good music though!

It is definately not a "blood and gore" war movie ... it is about conflict and feeling, not about how many different ways someone's head can blow up.

I only saw this in the theatre, so I want to see the DVD since supposedly it is a longer cut of the film (right?).
