A civil war buff should appreciate this movie, it is well acted and definitely provides a bit of excitement. Since I'm not well versed in what happened I can't speak to the accuracy of the movie. Sounds like a good gift to me.

I saw Gettysburg with my entire Junior class in H.S. Needless to say it was grueling experience as I could not concentrate on the movie itself due to my classmates acting like total idiots all the way through the presentation.
Caught it later on vidoe and found it quite a good movie, just nothing exceptional. Good music though!

It is definately not a "blood and gore" war movie ... it is about conflict and feeling, not about how many different ways someone's head can blow up.
