Movies you thought would suck... but DIDN'T

Inspired by Dr. DVD's thread. Which movies did you think would be bad but ended up being good?

My votes go to:

Blue Crush: Went to the city with a few friends one day and decided to see a movie. Blue Crush and The Good Girl were the only ones playing at that time. I wanted to see The Good Girl and they wanted to see Blue Crush. I thought it would be a horrible snoozefest but it ended up being rather entertaining (and gave me the hot for Kate Bosworth )

Recently, off the top of my head, I'll throw Gangs of NY out there. I went to see grudgingly, and I was blown away.

Historically, for me...

-South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut
-Dirty Dancing
-Lawrence of Arabia(saw it as an action junkie in high school and it floored me,oh the ignorance of youth)
-Austin Powers

Yeah, throw another vote for Gangs of NY up there for me.

Also, About a Boy surprised me, since I hate Hugh Grant.

I forgot about Moulin Rouge, I thought it would be terrible. After the Oscar buzz I decided to give it a shot. I was pleasently surprised.

Another one is Barbershop. Came out in theatres and I thought it was going to be bad. Decided to give it a shot on DVD after I heard some praise and again was surprised.

After going out to dinner with some friends, we just made a spur-of-the-moment decision to see Final Destination. My expectations were pretty low, but I remember being pleasantly surprised by the flick. Certainly better than either of the Scream sequels, I thought.

Also went to see Breakdown with Kurt Russell because there was nothing else out at the time. Found it to be a pretty solid little thriller.

Just recently:

Shanghai Knights - Jackie's been doing some less than average movies lately, but this one caught me by surprise. Started out terribly, but by the end I was smiling.

Ocean's 11 Re-make - bought this locally as a buy one get one free used deal. Fun fluffy movie I still pop in every now and again.

Good Burger - if you need to ask, you just don't understand.

I enjoyed this movie even though most people thought it sucked.

Most of my surprises comes from pre-Internet days where you can only go by the trailers and prints reviews. That said, some of the more recent ones:

Clueless - was forced by a gang of dormgirls to see

Speed - saw it a few weeks before wide release. first time director with keanu in it?

Ballistics - thought it would suck, but it doesn't just suck, it blows, it bombs, it is the most unpleasant movies i've ever sit through for 10 minutes before leaving.

I'll add one more
Fear Dot Com
From all the bad reviews it got, I was expecting something terrible. IMO it wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews it got.
