Catherine Wheel - Ferment

One of the best albums of the 90s that generally went unnoticed by this brit-alt band. Black Metallic has to be one of my top 10 songs of all time.

Anyone else dig this album or dig these guys?

They first caught my attention with the "Crank" single off their "Chrome" album. (Never heard their first one)

I actually like them better from their "Happy Days" -stage on, when they got rid of the high pitched singing and went more straight rock ("waydown" is just incredible)

My favourite two CW albums are "Happy Days" and "Adam & Eve"

Ferment is one of my favorite albums. It's always been a little disappointing that they never really became that big in the States but really that just means that when they come over and tour, their concerts will be small and intimate rather than impersonal in humongous venues I don't really like the direction that they took in their later albums like Adam & Eve even though they were still good. They seemed to go more poppy. I prefer the older stuff. I really like the Chrome album too.

When I first heard of them, I thought Catherine Wheel was a woman. What a weird voice for a woman to have.

I have that CD. Good stuff. Saw them open for another band in a small-ish venue. I liked them, but didn't fall down at their feet. I guess at the time I was more into other bands.

Better Days is also a great album. I remember when Way Down got played on the radio for a brief while. This band has always puzzled me -- their sound was exactly what the norm was in the mid-90's yet they never really broke through. But like you said, bad for them, good for us as we get the smaller shows.
