Today's CDs (1/27)
John Hiatt - Crossing Muddy Waters
Interpol - Turn On the Bright Lights
Fastball - All the Pain Money Can Buy
Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto
QOTD: Do you get rid of music you don't listen to anymore? Why or why not?
I ask because I've set myself a limit of 350-400 CDs (all that will fit in the shelving around the stereo), partially because of space limitations and partially because it helps keep my music spending from spiralling out of control. I wonder if other music fans do this, too...

I've never gotten rid of music. I don't know why, because I have cd's I'll never listen to again, but I just keep them for some reason. Maybe because I consider them to be part of the collection or something.

AOTD:
i did... for awhile.. i've stopped now. why? because, i have bought back about 60% of the albums i've sold at one time or another. it's weird, i've been going back to albums i sold two years or more ago recently... one example is The Poster Children's "Junior Citizen" - a solid college rock album. i also ended up buying back Blur's first two albums ("Leisure" and "Modern Life Is Rubbish").. the list is long of things i've rebought recently.
the one thing i do do, though, is upgrade. for instance, the bob marley catalog is being rereleased in two-disc editions. i'll sell my old, unremastered discs in order to buy the two-disc editions.

It's a thread to list what you are listening to today, SM.
Anyway, nothing too notable for me today, but I did want to increase the forum's Calla love by posting their very first video, which is fantastic. Check it out. The song is "Strangler" from the new one:

Calla - "Televise" (just turned it on before checking this thread)
Dakota Suite - "Signal Hill"
Slowdive - "Pygmalion"
Out Hud - "S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D."
The Meters - "Look-Ka Py Py"
Q of the D:
If I haven't listened to a particular CD in a year or more, it's usually time for it to go. The only exception to this rule is something that I have misplaced for that period of time.

Crooked Fingers - Red Devil Dawn
Hobex - U Ready, Man?
Phish - Live Phish 14 (10/31/95)
The End of Violence - Soundtrack
AOTD: I haven't traded in a cd for well over 5 years. Every time I trade in a disc, I regret it later, and I've repurchased quite a few of the discs I've traded in. Not worth it to get $2-3 for a used cd.

Echo and the Bunnymen - Heaven Up Here
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
mp3s of Blonde Redhead and Q and Not U
Now that I look at it, that has got to be the most scattered set of music in one day that I've ever seen...
AOTD: I sold a bunch of metal cds when I was in 9th grade, but I make it a policy to keep all of the albums I buy. Mainly because it might take a little while for something to really grip me (eg - Spoon - Kill the Moonlight took about 2 weeks before I ended up loving it). I would hate to think I don't like something and then end up listening to it at a friend's house only to love it and want the cd back.

I sell stuff all of the time. Usually if there is a new release I want to try but I am not sure about, I'll just buy it cheap at BB or CC. If I do not like it, I'll sell it on Half.com. I may lose a buck, so it's like a rental. Sometimes I'll even recoup all of my cash and have made a buck on occasion. This has happened alot recently (Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Phil Collins).

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
Today's (1/28) listening, actually:
The Streets - Original Pirate Material
Peter Gabriel - Security
Peter Gabriel - third album
Public Enemy - He Got Game
Guster - Lost and Gone Forever
Planning on buying today:
Lou Reed - The Raven
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Pulp - His 'n Hers
QoD: I don't really get rid of my music for pretty much all the reasons posted. It's not worth it to get a buck or two for a disc. Some albums take time to sink in. If I upgrade to a reissued/remastered disc, I'll give the old one to a friend or my brother (who loves discovering new music). One day after law school I'd like to get a nice-sized house with a room that'll fit all of my music. Right now I have my collection spread out all over the place.
