The SNES version of the first game was pretty good, but the Commodore 64 version was horrible. The buildings were just squares that got thicker to represent the getting taller.

Okay. I actually have SC4. I have yet to determine what's new and different enough about it that I didn't exhaust in SC3000.
1. Import your sims. Actually, import a sim name, portrait, and astrological sign. He'll live in the city and work someplace, and give you feedback. Whoo.
2. Agriculture zone. Big deal. Get rid of Low-Density Industrial and replace it with agriculture. Whoo.
3. "Streets" and "Roads" -- big zones autospawn "streets" which are low-capacity "roads" -- just another (unimportant) layer of micromanagement. Whoo.
I don't see yet what the big deal is, but I've only played for about an hour or so.

My PC would melt if I tried to run Sim City 4
I wish it would come to the XBOX and any system for that matter. I've been searching around for rumors or info and so far haven't found a thing.

Sim City 4 is pretty cool i guess if you're a fan of the Sim City series.
stuff i dont really care for is the importing your character in the Sims or creating a new sim to live in the city. the Sim doesnt do much it just tells you how good or bad your city is doing.
but i do like having cities in the SimNation. you can cities and have surrounding citiies share your resources and you can import other cities that other people have made.
my only other gripe is that on a Athlon 1800+, 512 DDR RAM, 128mb Geforce3 Ti200 card the game still takes a while to zoom and draw the graphics. i guess its time to upgrade the video card.

I just got the game on the PC, and having a good pc really helps, just added a 512mb memory chip from 128Mb now to 768Mb memory makes a real difference on a 850Mhz AMD Thunderbird chip. Got an old 32mb Geforce2 and I get good response from the game, though zooming in sometime takes a few seconds to refresh the detail.
I even can run this on my dell 1gig laptop with a crappy 16mb video card. When you start getting a large city it does slow down.
Installing the latest nvidea drivers and directx 9 made the games performance increase.

I loved simcity 1 and played simcity 2000 for years. I liked 3000 but it just wasn't the same, too cartooney. I will probably pick it up soon though. I have heard good things.

I'm a big fan of the series, although I never played SimCity 3000. I think the jump from 2000 to 4 will be worth it for me. I've been reading good things about it.
When I do get it, I just hope I can make the time to play it.

I loved the first Sim City and my wife really liked SC 2000. She didn't like 3000 because she said it was over-involving, and she didn't like micromanaging the city so much. I never played 3000. So, I'm intrigued by SC 4. Maybe I'll pick it up.
