Aerosmith, Kiss Set To Rock'N'Roll All Night

Aerosmith and Kiss will embark on a co-headlining North American tour beginning in August and running through October, sources confirm. The tour of approximately 40 dates will be produced by Clear Channel Entertainment and is expected to play 90% amphitheaters, with arenas and possibly a couple of stadiums also in the mix. Kiss will perform in full makeup, sources say, and Aerosmith will be touring in support of a new Columbia blues album.

"We want to really try to get everybody in a room at the same time," bassist Tom Hamilton told Billboard.com about the album last September. "It's funny because it triggers all of the competition and uncomfortableness that we've always had going into the studio, and it's going to mean everybody is going to have to be open, vulnerable, and brave, and go in there and do that process like we used to do it."

Aerosmith grossed nearly $40 million from touring in 2002. The group was recently nominated for the best rock performance by a duo or group with vocal for "Girls of Summer," drawn from last year's "O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits" compilation. Aerosmith has also signed on to appear at the Feb. 7 Salute to the Blues concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall.

As for Kiss, the group grossed more than $60 million from its 2000-2001 "farewell" tour. As previously reported, Kiss will join the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for a one-off Feb. 28 concert at the city's 48,000-capacity Telestra Dome. The group has also scheduled a March 11-13 stand at Tokyo's Budokan Hall.

Black Sabbath & Blue Oyster Cult once did a co-headlining tour in the USA. I believe that there was a video: The Black & The Blue.

I'd rather see a dual headliner than some lame-o opening act like the current version of Skid Row, which features some guy who actually saw them back in the 80's.

Well someone has to play before the other, but with a co-headlining tour both bands have roughly equal play time and neither are considered "openers."

Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette co-headlined a tour in 1999, and they had an opening act that came on before either of them played their sets.

Cool! I'll actually get to see a show this summer. Hope Aerosmith goes on first.

I wonder why they only added one show? Makes for a pretty short tour.

I just hope tickets aren't $200 a piece or something.

I'm sure more days will be listed. There are no other tour dates mentioned on the cc.com website. The PA show is the only one.

I am also very afraid about the ticket prices. Aerosmith plus an opener usually yields $40 lawn and $80 pavilion. What's Kiss going to add to that? Guess we will find out.

It was in the full page ad for the Pavillion in yesterdays Post Gazette, with tickets TBA. Once you double the ticket price and add Ticketmasher's 25%+ fees, it will probably be out of my price range. Pavillion tickets for the farewell tour were about $95 with fees and shipping.

It's a hell of a note when I can basically get a game console cheaper than a concert ticket.

Grrr. Why is it that Detroit is the only stadium show on the town? That sucks. I saw DMB at Comerica a couple years ago. The sound wasn't too hot and there aren't very many good seats at all. I hate the idea of spending $50 to be 40,000 people away.

I'll probably drive down to Indy and see them at Deer Creek. Smaller venue, safer atmosphere, and better acoustics. I'm all for that.

This is very much worth my $50.

With Kiss being there expect to pay at least 75 bucks and thats for cheep tickets,there getting old so there over charging,I use to respect Kiss and Aerosmith but now there joining the likes of the Rolling Stones when it comes to there concerts,not worth the price if you ask me,I seen these guys when they where young and good and payed 20 bucks for a ticket.

That was back in, I believe, the early to mid 80s when both groups were still big names. It would have been one hell of a concert to see (BOC was my favorite band in the mid to late 80s). When I was a DJ in college at a no-format station (you could play whatever you wanted), I had a couple of black and blue days (exclusively Black Sabbath / BOC songs).

As for KISS / Aerosmith, I saw KISS back in '97 in St. Louis. I've seen dozens of concerts, but that concert was hands down the best concert, visually speaking, that I've ever been to. They put on one hell of a performance. Of course, the fact that I knew all of their songs by heart probably helped. If the ticket prices were reasonable, I would see this combination.

Co-headlining sometimes means they will spit the amount of shows equally and for half one band will open and the other half the other band will open.

I saw Kiss and Alice in Chains in '94. It is a shame AIC got booed off stage. Just a clash of different music styles and fans. It was quite funny. AIC got sick of it, so the drummer bust into a lousy rendition of Beth. They flipped everyone the bird and left the stage.

And that was definitely one of the BEST shows I have ever seen. They put on a hell of a show.
