Yu-Gi-Oh Information
I'm interested in buying a Yu-Gi-Oh game but don't know how it's actually played.
Is it like the cartoon series, where the cards take form, morph, and battle each other (we can actually see the card characters strike each other)?
or
Are the cards drawn, played, and whoever has the better card wins that turn (we only see the cards and not actual characters)?
Also, is the deck you start out with randomly generated or do you keep picking cards from a group until you have a complete deck?

The Yu-Gi-Oh: Eternal Duelist Soul game for GBA is the best one to get as its suprisingly authentic to the actual card-game. They have almost every single card in it programmed to do what they actually do - pretty impressive. All the other Yu Gi Oh video games take fairly big liberties with the actual rules. I also have the Dark Duel Stories game for GBC - while the gameplay in that one is similar to the card game, its really a much watered down version of it. So anyways, get the GBA game.
The game is based on the TV show, your opponents are all characters you see in the show. However the battles aren't animated out like in the TV show. When there is a battle you just see the faces of the 2 cards and the better card wins. No morphing, action scenes, etc. At the beginning of the game, you select 1 of 3 decks and that determines your initial set of cards (you don't see the cards beforehand). They are all somewhat similar. After each win, you select a booster pack which gives you 5 more cards (randomly from within that booster pack) that you can use. As you get further in the game you unlock new booster packs. Plus once a week or so you get a bonus set of cards. As you get new cards, you edit your deck to get the kind of deck strategy you want to use.
Its a great game - I play it quite a bit.

I recently picked up the eternal duelist soul and having a lot of fun playing it. I never played a yu-gi-oh card game but got right into the gba version. You choose a deck at the begining. Then as you beat other duelists you win cards. you can edit your deck with the cards you win. You can also input a number from real cards to get them into the game. But it doesn't work from all cards I've tried.

Thanks for the info but unfortunately I don't have a GBC or GBA. Any info on the PS version or the PS2 version scheduled to come out?
I hope with the power of the PS2, the characters on the cards become animated.
