The DEER HUNTER Region 4
I wanted to ask if its worth getting the R4 disc of the DEER HUNTER. I am aware of the fact that the sound mix is only 2.0 but then I also know that the disc is anamorphic.
Please let me know what your comments are on this one......

There's no great The Deer Hunter disc out there but having seen the US, UK and Australian disc I settled on the Danish disc from www.dvdoo.com -as it's how I remember the film.
Warner UK/Canal+ have a 2disc SE (they already have a 1 disc release) planned for July -but I'd be very surprised if they can do much 'enhancement' as the film's always been dark and grainy.
The Danish disc (2.35:1 anamorphic -it's listed wrongly @ DVDDoo) is from OnAir -the same distributor as the very solid DVD release of the brilliant The Driver.
Oh, the Danish disc is also only US$6

Bought the Swedish edition in Stockholm last year for less than $5 when it was still not available in the UK.
This is equivalent to the UK edition and certainly to the Australian edition.
Picture is anamorphic but not that great.
The worth being the soundtrack. It is sometimes difficult to understand what they are saying.
I would say for less than a fiver it is a good buy ...

Yeah, it's probably some sort of mono -but that's how it always sounded (very flat).
Universal are working on a DTS version for Region 1*
*That's a lie and would be a horrible thing to do to the film.
