What percentage of movies do you like?

I was looking at my movies list on IMDb and roughly 50% of the movies I have rated (have only been doing it recently so a lot of movies I have seen haven't been rated as I only do ones that I have seen recently or a few exceptions) I gave 7 or above.

I rate based on the following scale: 1=awful, 3=below average, 5=average, 7=above average, 9=terrific with the in betweens left for me to record my personal like/dislike of something.

Anyway, made me curious about how many movies others tend to think of as atleast above average and enjoying.

Ignore the poll portion if you like but I thought it might be a useful summary.

I'd say that I like at least 60% of the films I see. I rarely go into seeing things blindly, since the majority of films i see new are planned rentals or purchases. If I got movie channels and watched those, the percentage of disliked movies would undoubtedly raise. But I'm usually pretty good at finding movies that I'll really like or at least find worthy enough to not dislike. There are so many movies that I do like and think I'll like, that I don't waste a lot of time checking out movies I think I won't like. I'm also probably more willing to like something than most people. I have trouble thinking of a great many films that I truly DISLIKE.

_ B.) I'm new forgive me
_ C.) I still need to ask how many hours you have spent rewinding movies in the VHS days
_ D.) Just one more titled "What percentage of movies you have seen, lasted more then two hours.

I was going to start "How many abintra threads have you posted in today?" but decided against it. I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Btw, to answer your question: precisely 12.7%

I voted 60-80%. I tend to watch films I'm sure I'll like. I try to avoid those that I think will be crap.

If I only liked 0-20% of films I'd seen, I'd stop watching films. That's sad.

...and you probably wouldn't be participating in the DVD Talk Forum in the first place.

I voted for 60-80%, because like many others, I tend to only go see films I think I will enjoy. Even so, I tend to find things to like even in films I don't like--performances, direction, cinematography, etc--so it takes a lot for me to say I really dislike a movie or dub it "worst I've ever seen".

Since I listen to reviews and avoid all the crap that I can, I think I end up liking about 70 - 75% of what I see. But if I saw everything that came out (way too much to be possible), and thus saw all the dreck, it'd probably be a little under 50%.

To counter, I try not to label a film as crap until I've actually seen it. It's one of those things I like to do. I also watch television programs before proclaiming their level of quality. Strange I know. Consequently, I see a lot of crap. I also see a lot of brilliant work that is very underexposed. If I took the word of every know-it-all critic, I'd miss out on a lot of great films. Maybe it is sad ... but I try to form my own opinion.

Maybe this would explain the mania on DVDTalk for people literally buying just any old junk that's stamped onto a digital disc.

I skim those "what are you buying this week? threads" and see people listing every god-awful piece of jaded Hollywood schlock on there and just have to shake my head.

Who are you people? And WTF are you thinking?

It's not too difficult to understand why virtually all of those DVDProfile "profiles" are nearly identical - now, is it?

grunter: Click on my internet/homepage link --- does that look identical?

That said, I liked:
Swimfan and Y Tu Mama Tambien (not in that order)

I disliked:
Spider-man and Murder By Numbers.

I just ran some numbers on my IMDb ratings. Here's what I got:

Rating Number Percentage
----------------------------------------
1 4 1.23%
2 21 6.44%
3 19 5.83%
4 17 5.21%
5 16 4.91%
6 43 13.19%
7 58 17.79%
8 77 23.62%
9 51 15.64%
10 20 6.13%

Could I be any more bored at work today...

Sorry for the formatting - can't seem to make columns.

I was gonna vote, but don't have an option. I am extremely selective about the movies I watch. Since I have been keeping track of my votes at IMDB (about 3 years now). I have a 97.59% rating of 6 or higher (out of 666 titles).

93.7% 7 or higher

83.8% 8 or higher

50.2% 9 or 10

15.2% 10's

probably somewhere close to 90% of those i've seen.....though if it was a measure of those that are released it would be closer to 3-5%...........
