Problem with TV playback... "banding"

The set-up:

Hitachi 43" 16:9 HDTV (digital, non-HD cable reception)
Panasonic RP-* DVD (component cable)
Monster Power 2 connects these two to the power supply

What I am getting, especially on DVDs, is banding, like a wave of light and dark horizontal bars, about 4" high, moving down through the screen. It is very subtle and it's happenned as long as I remember but this is the first time I think of bringing up this issue with the forum.

There is no image distortion, color distortion, it just alternates between light and dark and is easiest to see in darker colors (fleshtones and daylight scenes drown this out).

Any ideas?

It sounds like it could be a ground loop. If you have cable TV, try unhooking the cable from the TV or VCR or whatever and play a DVD. If it goes away, then you know that it is one.

I fixed my ground loop problem by grounding the cable tv wire to a metal pipe that leads out of the house.

Sounds like inductive interference on your video cable from ac power. Look to see if your s-video or whatever video cables you're using are lying near your power cables. If so seperate them.

It might be "dirty" ac. What type of power supply/ups are you using if any?

Either way I think it's a power related issue from what you describe.

Or ground looping from another video source, still a power/grounding issue.
